Looking for recommendations on a coffee grinder.

I'm the type that drinks coffee all day. At night too.

And if it matters, I'm the only one in our house that drinks coffee

So, any recommendations on which one to look for?

Thanks all

We have an OXO. Use it every day. I just drink regular American style. (Caffe Americano) coffee. No Latte's or other communist style brews. Use it daily. On my second one first lasted about 7 years.

It didn't break just got dull. It's a burr grinder. No matter what brand get a burr grinder.

We bought this one. It replaced a Cuisinart that crapped out on use. This one is half the price, quieter and easier to clean

Baratza Encore. No brainer decision. Most highly rated grinder overall. I e had mine for a long time and it's flawless.

If you want to pay an extra $100 for the digital measure, the Virtuoso might be worth it, but not for the way I use it. I keep my beans vacuum packed and put as many as I need in the grinder per use.

I have a Rancilio Rocky. It was expensive but I will never have to buy another in my lifetime. I swear it could grind rocks into powder.

We were gifted a Breville Smart Grinder Pro 4-5 years ago and it's been a low-maintenance workhorse. The digital display is very convenient for switching between half a pot/full pot and what roast we're using (strength of the coffee).

I have had the Baratza Encore, Viruoso and Vario, as well as the Rancilio Rocky.

Depending on your budget I would look at the Baratza Encore Pro or the Virtuoso +. I have always been a fan of Baratza.

I have the Encore. If all you're doing is drip or press, it gets the job done and done well. Mine's been running over 7 years now with no issues.

I have the Virtuoso+, and it has been excellent. It's supposed to be one of the best for making French press coffee, which is what I drink most of the time.

I've had both, and that's not the only difference... the Virtuoso has higher quality burrs and grinds beans much more quickly and consistently. And it is quieter.

+1 for Rancillo Rocky. Bought in 2014 and have used daily since. Still grinds perfectly.

Out of curiosity, what methods do you brew with?

Drip: you have a lot of flexibility but honestly an electric blade grinder will get the job done for a regular drip.

Espresso: as others have mentioned, Baratza is the way to go. Breville's grinder isn't bad either. Important for espresso is conical burr.

Pour over (Chemex, V60, etc): you need to go hand grind. I have a Timemore and cannot recommend it enough. Stainless steel and you can dial in your grind size depending on the coffee. Bonus the handgrinder is also good for old school drip.

Mostly espresso or Latte's in a Gaggia Classic. Every now and then I do a french press

I would completely disagree with this.

Totally fair. Is it optimal? No, but I think it gets the job done.

Does the Baratza encore have an anti static grounds bin? The virtuoso says it does but the encore doesn't mention it. Our current grinder does not and it is annoying.

I like the adjustable grind feature!

This thread is relevant to my interest. Our Shardor is about 1.5 years old and the burr got dull. It shipped with an extra set but we can't find it.

We make press coffee every morning. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and spend the money for a more durable option. I've been through 3 grinders in the last 2.5 years.

Try adding a few drops of water to the beans in the hopper before grinding.

We've had this Kitchenaid for over 15 years, maybe close to 18 years. We use a French press.

I have the Cuisinart with the blade. It's fine and has lasted several years. It's noisy and isn't as great as a burr grinder I'm sure. But it makes good coffee with my drip machine. And it's <$20 and doesn't take up much counter space.

I have one of those as well, but it's not for coffee. They do make outstanding spice mills though. Mainly use it to make homemade chili powder.

I have this one and it is going strong ~ 5 years on. Highly recommend.

That one is a plate grinder though. Conical burr >>> plate burr when it comes to consistency.

Better than a blade grinder for sure though.

I've used for everything from finest to its most coarse setting it is really consistent. The more coarse settings are the least consistent. It is much better than my hand crank conical burr grinder.

Probably not the best, but it does a great job.

I use a stovetop moka espresso maker. Currently using a Bodum grinder but it is nearing the end of it's life it appears. It has done well except occasionally the finer espresso grind clogs the inner works and I have to take apart to clear it. Recommendations?
