Who is on the list for guys who can just take over a game and score at will.

My five are:
Wade
Elston
Antoine
Acie
Danuel House

Not sure Bernard King shouldn't be on this list.

I think people wildly overrate Middleton the college player.

Hard to argue with those five Method.

Sloan could get cooking.

DJ Hogg was kind of an all time "when he's good he's good" guy.

Middleton's NBA success distorted the memory of his college performance. He was obviously a very good player, but he only scored 20 or more points 6 times in 87 games.

BJ Holmes could really heat up.

Outside of the Mizzou and Arky games I don't remember him just going off.

I believe I remember two red white shots against ISU. They were huge.

How do we view senior year Donald Sloan? Averaged 17.8 ppg that season, was first team all-Big 12, leading that 5-seed NCAAT team.

That 17.8 ppg by Sloan that season was more than either Wade's 15.2 ppg this season or Phelp's 14.6 ppg.

I view him as an all time great. And, of course, as a former amateur boxer.

Sloan is probably our most underrated player. Dude was incredible. I think he's a top five player in the BCG or after era for sure.

He's up there but that's for a different thread!

i think donald sloan his senior year was more
unstoppable than wade taykor this season. donald was so strong man his ability to dribble penetrate and get to the hole were special. he also had a nice pull back fade way jumper to go with his drive game. he also has elite athleticism for a smaller player. personally a huge donald sloan fan.

The time Sloan converted all the Baylor fans and team with his personal Baptism dunk is a top 5 memory for me.

I do think Taylor is almost in a class by himself here on "fire starters".

Not sure we've had anyone else who had the same level of "oh **** they're hot, look out." I don't know if that makes sense because we've had guys better at taking over games because they can get to the basket like Sloan and Law, but just from an ability to just light on fire to the point you knew they were about to fire up a heat check and you didn't even mind.

House maybe is close.
Method Man

Wade is tops and honestly House is two. He took some bad shots at times but he definitely had some takeover the game moments. Elston was elite as well.

Not even Acie Law??

Acie is number one on the "one possession to win the game" team. Oddly, BJ Holmes is maybe number two

Different vibe. Felt like Acie was basically always on.

Put it this way, we need one shot to win a game, it's Acie no question.

We're down 8 and nobody is doing anything and we need someone to just go wild, it's Taylor.

Sloan is what I'd hoped Obaseki would become. Very similar athletically.

Yeah

Sloan just played smarter and way more under control than manny does

I must add the " Pride of Normangee" Joseph Jones to this list to make sure the debate is fair :-)

Uh they're not similar athletically. Manny has nba athleticism jumping and length. Sloan had elite start/stop.

Sonny Parker shot over 50% from the field. I don't see how he's not on this list.

The difference between Manny and Sloan is that Manny hasn't yet gotten mauled by a UCLA Shipp near the pacific ocean in winning/tying territory for the Ags in the second round of the tourney thus yielding a no call by the refs!! :-( I'm sorry to bring up trauma!! ha ha!!!! but for some reason it's therapeutic for me still to make analogies.

Back to the question, I would have to think about this fair comparison, so maybe I will. Other than going right vs. left as a preference, Sloan was definitely quicker and lower to the floor. Both love the mid-range fade-away but can occasionally catch fire from distance. Manny is definitely a little more creative in the air if he has the momentum to get there. Sloan was relied upon more consistently than Manny has ever been relied upon except last year when game time became game time.

Both are awesome Aggie basketball players imo. I hope Manny steps up this year in the same way if he's called upon, because he's definitely capable. Mostly, I see them as two awesome team players with next-level leadership ability. Gig'em, yo!

Anybody remember Joe Wilbert? I was a freshman in 94/95 watching my first Aggie basketball game at G. Rollie White Coliseum when I saw him play and he stood out far above any member of that Aggie team, but he also truly stood out amongst some really good teams the Ags played that year as well.

Yes, Wilbert and David Edwards were the two best players on Tony Barone's best team that made the NIT in 1994. Both were also all-time A&M greats. Wilbert won't show up on a lot of career lists because he was a juco transfer, I believe.

At the risk of being scolded by Method Man, Wilbert's game was similar to Pharrel Payne. I'm not sure why bigs don't do this any more, but Wilbert was really good at sealing his defender on the block (Joe Jones was the best we ever had at this). Why back a guy down from 20 feet if you can just catch a pass, turn, and shoot a 4 footer off the glass? Guards don't seem to work on the angle either.

Wilbert may be best remembered for punching a deserving Tech student after winning a close game in Lubbock, in a moment that was an inflection point in the rivalry across all sports.

For those who don't remember, that was our team trying to leave the court while the TTU police stood around doing nothing. Wilbert should have clocked about 20 of them.
