Is this year likely to be Buzz's peak?

- 8 seniors/graduates on the team (if I counted correctly)
- The all time leading scorer for A&M on this team.
- A team that excels in what he values (rebounding and defense)

Yes, we may have other good recruits coming in, but I have a hard time seeing another one of his teams having this much going for them. Now, if they win at least two games in the tournament, then it is a pretty good 'peak'. If they win one or none, it will be quite the underachieving label that will be attached to this team.

Yes which is why I don't think it's completely unreasonable people saying we need to get to the 2nd weekend or move on from him. He thrives on effort, defense and offensive rebounding. We have one of the best guards in the nation (senior) to go along with a senior laden roster who has played a ton of games together and we are literally #1 in the nation at O rebounding.

If you can't get to the sweet 16 with this roster, playing this "style" of ball it will never happen.

If buzz was smart he would go outside his coaching tree and find a highly intelligent Off minded assistant and mesh some pieces of a modern offense to compliment his defensive style and effort players.

But he's too hard headed to do that and is so hyper fixated on trying to win his style of ball. What's sad is if we had one coach on this staff that was capable of generating offense, crate spacing and improve some of our basic half court sets this would be a final 4 worthy team. As it stands I think this might be one of the worst assembled offensive capable staffs in the nation…I shutter to think of what this would look like without Taylor

It seems like sort of the peak and most quintessential version of the group he tries to build. The shooting is frustrating for sure. Hell our rebounding/defensive specialist is at least our second best 3-pt option right now.

For the tourney we just have to hope our brand of ball matches up well against our draw and that we shoot it a little better than our poor averages.

No offense to him, very appreciative of his career here, but Wade is nowhere near one of the best guards in the nation. At least not this year. The all sec 1st team award was a gift.

Talent yes. Actual player on the floor I agree with you but I pin a large portion of that on our coaches inability to coach him on the offensive end or have any semblance of a half court offense. A capable offensive staff would have completely geared this kids game around driving into the lane 80% of the time and drawing fouls or kicking out to the perimeter and swinging the ball for open looks for others.

As it stands now he consistently jacks up ill-advised 35 footers, is a turnover machine and extremely sloppy with the ball lots of times. Imagine how good he would be with a little grooming and a coach that could instill some sets around his skills

I think Buzz continues to get better players and will have better seasons going forward

He's found players that can contribute through the portal some hits some misses

Love Wade great Ag but I think Buzz will find better and more complete consistent player Which will lead to seasons that are better than this year

This team has the potential to lose first round or go to the final four. It sounds elementary and true for any game- but will just depend if we are hitting shots and if they team we are playing is not on a heater (Penn State, cough)...

That talent everyone thinks of in DJO, Butler, Crowder, were all JUCO kids .... in 2010ish when JUCO was a rarity. Those guys are only viewed as talented because Buzz's style unlocked their potential that led them to getting drafted. Otherwise, maybe outside Crowder, they would've ended up at UTA and been an afterthought.

Will he ever recruit shooters? That's basically the only pending issue. More naturally skilled shooters who buy into his system will lead to great success. To date I don't see those 2 things marrying up.

Again it's bc he doesn't have an offensive coordinator aka assistant that can formulate players to fit any other scheme than hustle and prioritizing defense and O rebounding

Buzz keeps hiring guys from his tree or defensive minded. That's the root cause, not having shooters is a symptom. Until he hires outside this mindset and can actually formulate a semblance of a half court offense even if we do recruit shooters buzz will only play them sparingly. (Wilcher,Carter has turned into a dud etc)

He will never do that bc he's jimbo level stubborn and this is the only style he knows how to attempt to run, thus yes this is the ceiling.

Unless he sticks around for another 3/4 years building up a similar senior laden roster we are going to get similar results imo
