It's wild how we've gotten progressively WORSE at this every year.

Good teams- .800

Us:
2025- .695
2024- .707
2023- .759

Currently #271 amongst all teams this season.

For a guy that loves stats as much as Buzz does, to not do something about this continually declining rate, I'll never understand.

Shooting in general.
I think we're in the 300+ ranks in both FG and 3pt

You cannot coach free throw shooting to a 19 year old. They have to want to learn to shoot and frankly, it's too late. I honestly don't know the answer but I highly doubt there's data that shows a college player will improve their free throw shooting.

A player can practice FT by himself without interfering with other activities. I think it's a want to thing. Not saying the staff shouldn't make it part of team activities. It's crazy to me we prioritize getting FT but are so bad.

don't have the key of your offense getting to the FT line if you can't shoot FTs

Wade was like 17/18 yesterday, I'd say that worked out well for him.

Jace Carter's FTs yesterday looked like my daughter was shooting them.

It's a shame the NCAA doesn't disqualify tournament teams on bad FT and FG percentages so we can fire Buzz…instead we might get a 3 seed. That's shameful!!!

They don't need to. Bc we'll lose a game to a lower seed for exactly those reasons, and of course they love Cinderella stories.

If you really follow college basketball, you would know there are 364 teams this year and if you don't know why 9 teams don't show up in the stats online, you proved my point! And just in the low 70% range is average for shooting free throws!!!
20ag07

And…the "average" team doesn't even make the NCAA tournament.

So what is your point?

We have steadily trended downwards into the lowest ranks. And it has already (and there's a good chance it will again over the next weeks) cost us ball games.

Any moron can shoot free throws at 75 to 80% if they practice. It just takes self discipline and muscle memory. We lost at least five games because we could not shoot free throws. It is a very important part of our game much like a field goal kicker in football.

Like Bama 198th at 71.6 and Florida 220th at 71.1
Both fighting for 1 seeds and below the median

Free throw percentage is overrated.

Free throw opportunities is a better statistic to track.

The percentage doesn't matter as long as you get to the line more times than your opponent.

In a game....

If Team A gets to the free throw line 10 times and make 8 of them it's 80%.

If Team B get to the free throw line 20 times and make 14 that's 70% but that's +6 points more than Team A.

Furthermore, A&M is 9th in the nation at going to the line at 25 free throw attempts a game. Shooting close to 70% is good for 15th in the nation at 17.4 makes/game. In the last few games, we've averaged 21 makes per game.

Is it?

When you take Wade out, the rest of the team went 10 for 22 yesterday. 45%. That's ABYSMAL. And the only reason our already quite low season percentage is as high as it even is is bc of 4.

There's a reason they're called free throws, it's called the charity stripe, all the things.

I disagree with this because if you don't have sound shooting mechanics, you're not making a free throw.

How many guys on our team are good shooters? What I mean is you look at their shooting mechanics and you say, that's a nice looking shot.

What did we do to break Jace Carter?
Didn't he enter as a respectable shooting threat?

And do we not practice shooting??
It's almost like Buzz says "don't worry about the offensive side, because if we just do all this OTHER stuff really well, the score will take care of itself…."

There's about 350-ish teams….
And we're in the bottom 3rd of every shooting metric.
Un F'n believable

Had anyone asked Buzz this question?

What is our year over year % change?

When this does become the thing, and IT WILL- 51.7% tonight.

I wish Buzz would focus more on free throws.

Unfortunately, if he did, analytics say the granny shot would be the best and I don't think recruits would go for that.
