Payne had two incredible games this tourney. Excited to see him blossom next year.

By far the best player we had in Denver

Feel the Payne I hate that we lost but Payne was awesome
I would be very surprised if we are willing to pay the price it would take to keep Payne next season. We will have almost nobody around him. We won't buy a complete team from. The portal.

I feel he is gone as well he was underutilized we didnt run any sets designed for him to succeed yet he went out and killed it in the two audition game in the NCAA tournament.
He may he even have some draft potential.
Lets see what happens the next few weeks but i wouldnt blame the kid if he left.

Have we lost a single player under Buzz that we actively fought to keep?
Maybe Diarra if you want to count him? Emanuel Miller was kind of a special case in that he followed one of our assistant coaches to TCU so maybe that half counts too even though I don't think it was a matter of money or anything?
We kept Wade Taylor twice after he was a first-team all conference player, we kept Anderson Garcia who was an all-defensive team player, we pulled Payne out of the portal in the first place after he reportedly also visited Indiana and Oregon.
Just assuming we're going to lose our best returning piece to the portal is insanely defeatist even by this board's standards.
Could it happen? Sure, who knows, it's modern college athletics anyone could leave at any time and it's not THAT surprising, but I don't know where this mentality that we're just absolutely bargain bin shopping in basketball is coming from.

Why wouldn't he want to leave he didn't really improve and was not utilized. NCAA was not any coaching decision why he suddenly exploded.

He had similar stats to last year (some slightly better, rebounding slightly down), but on a team that was MUCH better than his previous one. He could have had even better stats but was a defensive liability for a big chunk of the season.
People see his offensive highlights and think he's great, but he was also constantly out of position on defense especially early in the season, he struggled to pass out of double teams, he still needs to work on keeping guys sealed in the post and establishing position. Some of why he wasn't even more involved on offense was his own fault.

his stats from last season he averaged less ppg until he had 51 points in the two ncaa games. Rebounding and everythign was about the same.
But his stats even improved just over the course of the season as he figured things out. He averaged more minutes and more points in conference play (11.3) than he did for the season (10.4) and than he did at Minnesota last year (10.)
And that's on a team where he wasn't the star of the show, which he absolutely would be if he comes back.

Hey I dont want him to leave but we'd be foolish to think he'll stay when there are only a few returnees. Im afraid if a better program comes calling he'll be gone and thats his right.
I don't think it's foolish at all if he likes Buzz. I mean who knows maybe he hates the guy and wants out, but I don't get why you'd want to leave just because a bunch of players graduated. If anything it's the opposite. He spent a season coming off the bench behind players he was more talented than, but it's his time now.
yes gonna be a few interesting weeks here Buzz needs to get to work if he is staying we have a lot of spots open.
See now we're talking, that's the spirit. Let's go get some guys who can make entry passes and maybe use a ball fake or two and feed this beast we've got. Payne should be a 20 ppg game guy next season.
Judging by where we are now, by next November Pharrel Payne will be Hakeem Olajuwon to this board.
I think he had his awakening in the tourney and now realizes he can dominate most people.
Can Solo fix his shooting motion and work a little on some power dribbles to the rim?

Lol i brought up The Dream when Pharrell was making those quick jukes on the slow 7 footers. Usually it's too quick, those dudes were reacting to his 1st fake when he was completing his 2nd.
