With Wade and Phelps gone we really need a true point. I think Mills is more of a 2 and while Glass may be a true point he will be a freshman.

I really like Donavon Dent out of New Mexico. Seems to be able to get into the paint at will and is a good finisher. Not in the portal as far as I know but his big man Joseph is graduating - maybe he would want to come over and throw lobs to Payne? Only 1 year left I think,

Another true point that just entered is Thomas out of UNLV - really good player and only a sophomore. I think Pope and Ky have already been in contact. Hope we will step up with a competitive package for a point and other positions of need.

I'm sure there are plenty of others and confident Buzz will find a good fit but it is fun to speculate - any others?

A true point? We need like five guards of all sorts. I don't care if they're a true anything.

Donovan dent from NM or Jaland Lowe from Pitt

Lowe is from fort bend Marshall and still would have two years to play

Yeah we need a lot but just watching these guys break down the defender creates a lot of opportunities for others esp if Payne sticks around, Boots and Manny could do it as not true points. They both were so patient waiting for the opportunities and strong finishers. So just think we need a ball handling, good assist man who is also a threat to score. I'm sure defense is also a consideration if he is to fit into our system. I'm just saying these qualities typically come in point guard size bodies but yeah we need multiple guards and some more inside presence too.

I would suppose everyone in the nation likes Dent. He's an HM all American.

Could use a lot more overall length too, especially if this "bricks and boards" offense continues to be the approach.

Tough to do against longer teams like this years UF and Mich

Yeah really like Lowe too just didn't get to watch him quite as much. Mountain West was fun to watch this year so saw a bit more of those guys,

If Dent enters, he's going to get offers from just about everyone. Expect he'd be very hard for a program like ours to reel in, but one can hope!

There is a big from Georgia Tech who would fit that bill - forget his name. He will have a big price tag or maybe he is nba bound. May stick at Tech too.

Really interested to see if the roster turnover leads to any style changes for Buzz. I don't expect us to go away from being the offensive rebounding all-stars, but he has an opportunity to alter how we play if he wants to.

Pitt's two best players are from Texas. Buzz need to go get both

Other guy is Wesley hates. 40% three pint shooter and USC's best player. From Beaumont. Get his uncle on staff her

I actually think it will. He builds his team and style around personnel. His VT and Marquette teams didn't play like this

We play like this because Andy, Coleman, solo, Carter etc are all really good rebounders for their size

Agreed and part of my thought process. I think the analytics of it will have him still emphasizing offensive rebounding, but he's played several different styles both offensively and defensively in his coaching career.

I don't even know what a true PG is in college basketball these days and what somebody means when they say that.

On TexAgs it's a pass-first point guard that averages like nine assists per game but can also get to the rim and finish whenever they want and shoots like 45% from 3 but only as a last resort and is an elite defender.

Should be easy to find.

Saw Yates once this year - nice player, good size 6' 4". Didn't know he was from Beaumont. Only a freshman.

I think you need a scoring PG in today's game. A guy that's going to take over the game and get you a bucket when you need it. Sure he needs to be able to pass too

Well Dent was 20 points, 6 assists and 40% from 3. Looked like a good finisher and played with a high motor. I realize these guys don't grow on trees and he will be a hot commodity if he even enters the portal. Just fun to speculate about who might be available relative to our needs.

I'm still waiting for Buzzball analytics to notice that shooting 30% from 3-pt is essentially the same as shooting 50% from two.
If we've gotta spread the floor and play from the outside in, then so be it. Plus having multiple legit 3-ball threats will give Gochi a little more room to work inside.

Yeah Im just being sarcastic, our best three point guards of all time were apparently not "true point guards." This mythical true point guard doesn't exist.

You need multiple guys who can, and are willing to, pass, attack of the bounce, score and defend. You can figure out what to call them later.

Yeah my recollection is he had a great center/ power forward at VT / forget his name. I think he had some eligibility left and was hoping he would follow Buzz here. Put him at the high post a lot because he was such a good passer - so a different looking offense. If I recall that guy missed a short shot on a last second inbound play that would have beat Duke in tourney. BCG used high low a lot with AK and Joe effectively. Maybe Solo/ Payne as a high low combo. Think Solo would be effective turning and facing up from high post.

Why would any of them come to us, Buzz doesn't put anyone in the NBA was the same now as he was when he hit here.

Blackshear was the guy at VT.

I think expecting Solo to do anything truly effective offensively at this point, is wishful thinking. I'd love to be surprised, but I don't think we should go into next season hoping or expecting any real growth from him offensively if we want to be truly successful.

I think McDermott could fit there too. I was impressed with his limited minutes. Rebounded at a high rate per minute and always seemed to be around the ball. Never got flustered and played like he belonged. I think he will get good minutes next year.

Points are a dime a dozen

We need a true center that's 7' or taller

Can not win in a tournament without one unless we get lucky with a matchup

Ratowski is 6'11" but don't know much about his game. Is he more of a stretch 4/5 or a back to basket post up type? If he is a stretch, would definitely want another back to basket big - need depth behind Payne for sure. Turkson only 6'7" I think.
