Nebraska is a horrible job, but he did a horrible job there minus the one year. Was great when at a basketball school like ISU.

I know there are challenges at Nebraska, but he's been just so damn bad there. He's had one decent season as a basketball coach in the last decade, and that was last year at (when they lost to us in the tournament).

The fact that Trev knows him from their time together makes me really nervous … he'd be a Mark Stoops-level higher, IMO.

I also think he'd be fine. Nebraska is probably the worst major conference job there is right?

Maybe Iowa or Minnesota?

Hoiberg just has done nothing at Nebraska to even hint at moving that program forward at all. He didn't build anything, just sucked every year except 23-24 when he lucked into a couple good shooters.

I get Nebraska is an awful job (and it really is), but even by Nebraska standards he actually was a little worse than their previous coach. Hiring him would be AWFUL.

He was considerably worse in Big 10 play than his predecessor, and his predecessor only won 40% of their conference games. Hoiberg has won 31%. YIKES.

I trust the Texags brain trust to tell me which basketball coaches are good and which are bad.

But his really bad years were at the beginning. One of which was the Covid year. They made the tournament last year, something they've only done like 8 times and this year they were at least competitive despite losing Mast for the whole season.

I mean we're talking about a program so bad we took one of their players.

For the record I'm not saying he's my first choice. Or even my fifth.

Yeah. I'm not saying I want him to coach for us I just wouldn't lose my **** about it's until the 3-7 start his first season.

Until he proves it, I have no faith in Trev's ability to pick out a coach and hire someone to re-energize a program. He picked Earley as the baseball coach that most were behind (players wanted and it's what persuaded him) and most seemed content with the choice at the time.

Bjork did hire Ford and Schloss (right?), but almost hired Stoops too (and while think Texags changed that in the middle of the night, it was really a couple BMAs....internet didn't do that other than expose the secrecy unfolding).

I don't really have a set list because I have no clue what the financials look like for us.

There's a lot of layers:

- how much money do we even have on hand
- how much money does the basketball program make
- how big of a factor is ticket sales in that number or is it mostly tv
- what are the rules really going to be on NIL collectives when revenue sharing starts

There's just a lot of data I don't know to be able to really say for sure.

It's clear that the major donors and Trev don't care about winning anything. If they did, we wouldn't be in this suck of an athletic department or "cutting costs" BS.

They just care about keeping the gravy train going.

It's so "A&M" to get a coach that's coached here before, played here before, lived here before, etc.

We never win anything because we are never proactive and we reward coaches for winning nothing of consequence.

hardly. Hoiberg is the 15th highest paid coach in the country and makes more than Buzz right now. He just got an extension last year so in order to hire him you'd probably have to give him a bump of some sort(even if it isn't a big bump) which puts him right there with Beard, Oats and Pope.

If we paid Hoiberg $5 million it doesn't prove we don't have money, it proves we don't have brains.

Hoiberg inherited absolutely zero roster. Previous coach had a very senior loaded team (almost as much as Aggies this year). So he started with nothing, then with COVID started all over again. It is HARD to recruit there. Biggest black mark to me is that there was a ton of D1 talent in the state in 2021, and he got none of them (Sallis, Chucky Hepburn, Fidler, a couple that ended up at Creighton…).

Man no thanks to this idea.

I initially thought the same but after looking into it Hoiberg got a raise and makes more than Buzz. Dennis Gates at Mizzou however makes approx 10% less at Mizzou and imo has done a really good job. I'm sure we'd have to pay him as much as Buzz to have any shot tho so that one is unlikely as well.

If Buzz leaves I suspect we're looking at an up and comer from a mid major. I don't think we'd hire someone without some demonstrable degree of hc success just not necessarily P5 success.

Gates literally accomplished the full Melvin last season.

And turned it around big time one season later.

Yeah, but to say he's done a "really good job" when he's been there threes years and in the second one literally didn't win a conference game seems like too much.
