UF was an average program before Golden got there, and now 3 years later with him and a strong NIL game, they are on top of the world with a title.

Also with Nate Oats at Bama already having a Final 4 and Elite 8 under his belt.

It is totally possible to reach similar heights as a program with Bucky Ball. But the big buck folks have to be committed to it. I'm all in on it!

I guess you are too young to remember their back to back championships with Billy Donovan? Al Horford is still playing in the NBA. It wasn't that long ago!

Yes, it's possible for Florida.

An average program that has played for 4 national championships and won 3 of them in the last 25 years?

How do you define "average"? Because it means something different to the rest of the world.

There's no good reason we don't have the same success either. It's drives me insane

Todd Golden coached for 3 years at San Francisco.

In the West Coast Conference they finished 5th in year 1 (9-7 in conf), 8th in year 2 (4-9 in conf), and 4th in year 3 (10-6). They won the WCC tourney and made the ncaa in year 3 and lost to Murray St.

That was his resume. His predecessor at San Francisco finished 4th in conf every year during his 3 year tenure, so Golden, by most meaningful measures, took a step back as a program.

At UF, before this year, UF went 9-9 (lost in NIT rd 1), then 11-7 (lost in NCAA rd 1).

The guy never won a tourney game before this year.

I say all this to illustrate that it's worth being patient and letting things run their course. Bucky is more credentialed and accomplished than Golden was, in my opinion. Bucky has nothing on his roster. Nothing. I'm giving him 2 years before I can even start to evaluate him.

This is partially because his predecessor is also a pretty good coach, Kyle Smith, who's now at Stanford and was reportedly in the mix for our job as well. But you're also underselling that 2022 San Francisco team. That was a really good basketball team. Them being a 10 seed was ridiculous.

I agree. And the WCC is a decent mid major basketball conf with Gonzaga and St Mary's. But he was still 4th in year 3 and needed to get hot to make a run.

But my point is that Bucky's achievements at Samford are much more impressive than Golden's at SF. Samford was a doormat and he made them a consistent winner.

Much more impressive? You can't be serious. The Southern Conference is a total joke compared to the WCC. I don't have time to look it up, but I'll bet the So Con has never had an at-large bid to the tournament in the history of the conference.

You can't just gloss over Gonzaga, St. Mary's and BYU. Gonzaga is a top 10 program over the last 25 years. Sustaining success can be just as hard as building a program that is down.

People hoping Bucky wins a national championship after 3 years have lost their damn minds.

To be fair that good Golden team went 2-6 against Gonzaga, St. Mary's and BYU. They lost to Gonzaga by double digits three times (16, 16, 10), St. Mary's twice but both games were close, and that was a bad BYU team that they went 2-1 against.

But I dunno, I don't think it's crazy to say that Bucky was significantly better at Samford. The goal of the game isn't to be the most efficient basketball team on Torvik.com, it's to win trophies. Golden's best finish was fourth at San Francisco. Bucky won the SoCon twice and finished 3rd two other times.

Granted much is a stretch, but comparatively what Bucky took over and did versus what Golden took over and did at SF, was my point.

Any Bosch, if he's good enough and gets the support, can get it done at a major program like ours

I'm not expecting much in year 1 except a fast paced, fun, to watch, hard working team that never quits.

If we get that, then we'll get the players next

Bucky already alluded to in his presser that we are somewhat limited in player acquisition this cycle due to when he's getting started.

So I don't expect a fully up to snuff sec caliber roster for next season.

It's also amazing how quickly outside perception can change of an athletic department.

They've had the same AD since 2016 and he's the same guy that hired Dan Mullen and then was almost publicly executed for hiring Billy Napier.

LOL at comparing us to Florida. Florida actually has a history of success for the 3 major sports:

Baseball: 14 CWS appearances. 1 championship. 3X runners up
Football: 3 national titles (all in the modern era)
Basketball: 3 national titles. 1 runner up. 6 final fours

He wasn't even just better, much less significantly. If losing to 1 seed Gonzaga is a qualy, sam lost by 53 to a 1 seed

The decision makers are key, not just money. A&M has the money, but missing a key ingredient. I am hoping Hegar can figure out the winning formula for A&M.
