Huss is returning to Creighton to take a position as head -coach-in-waiting under Greg McDermott. Interesting move.
Peace for Ukraine!

McDermott must be stepping down after this next season otherwise the move makes no sense.

Good for him, though. I'm sure he's going to do well there when he's hc.

Probably makes more sense now why he wasn't really involved in our search (reportedly).

Not that I have anything against Bucky, but Huss was the guy I wanted. Interesting that he passed up a chance to become a HC right now but settled on a "HC-in-waiting" function. That tells me what he thinks about TAMU and where we stand in the grand scheme of things.
Peace for Ukraine!

Or it tells you he's an alum of Creighton and that they were already talking about this when our job came open

Could have a lot to do with everything...Kinda like what Bear Bryant said, "When mama calls, you listen."
Peace for Ukraine!

The word around Twitter is that he is looking to coach for a couple more years then hang it up.

McDermott is only 60. I'm not understanding this at all.

Huss is basically locking himself into his biggest career job likely being Creighton when he is really close to being able to jump that individually from High Point. Maybe he was having trouble putting together a good roster for next year at High Point given all the craziness of your whole roster turning over basically every year and he thought that was going to hurt his career prospects.

If he had one more year of high success at High Point, could've gotten a job much better than Creighton. And so often, the head coach in waiting position turns into a firing after an unsuccessful year.

I don't think it's that hard to understand. Maybe McDermott, like a lot of other coaches, just doesn't feel like adjusting with the future of college sports, or he wants to spend time with family, or who knows what. But it's not like he's 35.

And Huss might just love Creighton. Again, that's where he went to school. Maybe that's his dream job, and Creighton can obviously win at a really high level.

I don't plan on working at 60...especially if I don't have to.

This is really simple, Huss wants to be at Creighton.

My guess is all of that is probably true for him to some degree

How many of us would pass up other jobs to be head coach in exiting st Texas A&M?

Probably a good portion of us

In addition to all of the other factors as to why this move makes sense for Huss, specifically, don't underestimate the fact that these Big East schools don't have to deal with football programs taking the lion's share of the revenue payouts. That puts them in an enviable position for basketball.

I still think they're going to figure something out for that, or everyone in the Big Ten and SEC is going to cheat anyway. There's absolutely no way they're going to let themselves be at a competitive disadvantage.

Maybe, but I haven't heard any proposals addressing that.

And with the SEC and ACC, most of those schools care a whole lot more about baseball than the B1G and other conferences do, so that's another pig at the trough.

I mean technically there's nothing stopping programs from just funneling money through a local business instead of a collective. Especially something like CC Creations or something that already makes NIL merch. It would be a "legitimate" NIL deal since the players names would be on apparel and they could appear in ads or whatever.
