Alberts didn't talk to Buzz for a year?! What?

https://huskercorner.com/nebraska-football-ad-trev-alberts-communication-issues

Former Nebraska football AD faces renewed criticism as reports emerge he had minimal communication with another successful head coach, Buzz Williams

Following the same pattern of his past at Nebraska?
Maybe I'm missing something but how does an AD fail to communicate much with a D1 top 25 caliber basketball head coach?

A little late to the game, homie…
I don’t start threads, I end them…

The Huskers hate Trevor Albert's with a passion. They view him as a traitor and will take every opportunity to drag him through the mud for abandoning his Alma mater

Communication is a two way street…if one party is not participating, it's kind of hard to force them. Buzz knew he was on the hotseat and got out. Good riddance

That article doesn't even make the claim that Alberts didn't communicate with Scott Frost. It just says that their relationship was fraught, which isn't a surprise considering Frost was terrible there.

Buzz was the issue. Buzz didn't communicate with Bjork much either according to Liucci. Then Buzz got mad at Trev for laying one of his staff members of. Billy said Trev talks to Elko and Earley daily but Buzz didn't have time for that because he said he was busy coaching basketball. But he had time to teach a class.

Just kind of wondering when some on this board will tire of working so hard to trash Buzz.

PSA: He is no longer our coach you know.

PS: I suspect the trashing of Bucky is next

my guess is you read nothing in this thread.

I don't think it's trashing Buzz to say he had a dicey relationship with the rest of the athletic department. Everyone knew that already. I do think it's weird that we keep seeing threads about it but I guess it's people that don't follow Aggie basketball all that closely trying to figure out what happened.

But for the like 20 of us that post here regularly I don't think anything that happened in the last few months was really surprising. The only thing surprising to me is that Maryland actually wanted to hire him.

Not surprised at all about Maryland.

It's like an ex girlfriend/boyfriend...All the problems we have discovered over time are easy to overlook in the honeymoon phase of a new relationship.

For an athletic department in flux (at Maryland), Buzz seems like a very safe pick. At the very least he should be as successful as here. At best, if he actually does make some changes to his philosophy- seriously going after NIL money and modernizing his offense/defense (I'm not optimistic about it, but we shall see), he could compete for Final 4s.

Don't yall remember Trev from college Gameday? Would you really want to talk to him more than once a year??

To be honest, at this point in time, Buzz and Maryland are a perfect fit.

Buzz is a coach who wants to do his own thing and not be burdened by communicating with the administration.

What better place to land than a University that currently has no AD? It's a match made in heaven for Buzz.

I fully expect to see future articles about communication issues between Buzz and whomever is ultimately hired at Maryland. That is, unless Maryland allows Buzz to hand pick the AD - which is entirely possible.

My guess is Maryland is also in a tougher financial spot than maybe it seems on the outside. Not just from an NIL standpoint, but across the board. But that "style of play" thing is no small matter. I was just surprised that a program that thinks as highly of themselves as they do would be interested in a coach that hasn't exactly had all that much success here and what success he did have was as ugly a style of basketball as there is.

Buzz was a filler. Gives them time to get an AD who then can figure out how to have a good basketball program again…

Funny, I was wondering the same thing about people trashing Trev.

Article fails to mention Buzz had only one conversation with his AD at Virginia Tech in Buzz's final year. ....Yeah,....I don't think it's TA. In all Buzz's analytics, I wonder what he would say his success rate has been when he doesn't communicate with the AD? FWIW

Bingo. You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

OR, you're a moderately successful coach with annoying quirks that wears out your welcome.

Wasn't it, though? Sometimes just plain tough to watch.

Let's just be thankful Maryland wanted to hire a coach who made it to the sweet 16 once in the last eleven years and move on.

I think Albert's handled this well and I liked Buzz and wanted him to stay but not for over market price and an additional 4-5 yr term. He simply wasn't THAT good. I also can't blame Buzz for going with the better deal for him and his family. Only time will tell how this works out but thru my Aggie lenses I feel like maybe it works out for everybody.

You'll all see when more coaches start having issues with Albert's.
