Posted this on the roster thread but it's slow so who cares, it can have its own. Welcome (back) Frank Haith!

I like this a lot. Veteran coach, has been around some big time programs.

I like that all three of our assistants so far have spent some time as head coaches, even if at a lower level for Cole.

This is a good hire. Bucky has done a good job assembling an experienced staff.

Remains to be seen if he can help bring in players, but Haith hasn't exactly been around a lot of successful/well run programs in quite a while.

His experience will surely be valuable, I've just never personally been all that impressed with him as a coach.

A lot of old assistants.

I should say experienced. Let's go with experienced.

Wizened perhaps.

I wish we could tell in advance how all of this works out. But I don't think it was a bad hire. And I think our HC holds people accountable.

Having be soiled by Austin twice, I can only hope he got out without being warped emotionally mentally or sexually.

Admittedly I don't know much about who these experienced coaches are, but I hope it doesn't restrain McWilliams' leadership, boldness, or enthusiasm to any degree.

McWilliams is THE MAN- trust in what has worked for him up to this point at all levels. Don't let too many cooks spoil the broth.

Oh, I guess that's McMillan!!!!

I think these hires show that Bucky knows where his weakness is. He doesn't have the experience of running a major program day-to-day, but these guys do in various ways.

This is the side of running a program that most fans just don't appreciate enough. Bucky knows the x's and o's, but coaching at Texas A&M is going to have some time requirements that coaching at Samford didn't, and he's going to need people with some experience to make that part easier.

One thing I was actually afraid of with this hire is whether he had enough of a network to build the kind of experienced coaching staff but that doesn't seem to be a problem at all.

IMO this is a better coaching staff overall than the outgoing one. It's unclear whether the head man is better than the previous one though (despite everyone's optimism, including my own) and that's the biggest thing.

It's hard to absolutely say for sure, Johnson, Wolf, etc might be geniuses for all we know but they've only ever worked for Buzz. It's hard to really say for sure who was in charge of what inside that circle.

But yes, overall, I like that this coaching staff is actually a staff of coaches.

I think we don't need to relitigate BK's tenure. But there is reason to believe he relied healthfully on his assistants and there were mixed outcomes especially in recruiting, in-game adjustments, and player development. Bucky bringing Kennedy's assistants back is the epitome of the Indonesian word berani which is a mix of brave and cocky.

If he truly is the HC he has been then I am not worried. Hopefully the staff plays as a team and doesn't make excuses.

Great point above Bob- and the fact there's so much Aggieland experience should give even more lift on the admin side.

It's not even close. The new staff has far more skins on the wall than Buzz's yes men.

BK had what, 3 future head coaches on his staff here? One thing BK did really well was hire assistants throughout his career. His Murray State staff had Dusty May, Steve Prohm and Amir Abdur Rahim on it.

In almost 20 years as a HC, Buzz has never hired an assistant who went on to become a HC. He inherited 1 who was already on staff as an assistant when he got promoted at Marquette(Benford) and he has had a couple of support staffers who had been fired as a HC previously.

Yeah, I can honestly definitely get on board with the idea that the Bucky era is going to look like the Kennedy era from a staffing standpoint.

Similar ship, different captain.

The assistant coaches are smart enough to improve Bucky ball! And they are seasoned enough to command respect from most recruits.

A captain that isn't shackled by rivals questioning the hc's health won't hurt imo. Admittedly, that recruiting argument may not be as effective in the NIL/portal era.

Sums up my main frustration with the BK era. The head man was not a net asset. He was a liability. Frankly, incredible we had even 2 successful season (out of 7).

I do still wonder what he may have done without Parkinson's but we'll never know . Just a very unfortunate scenario. Teams were definitely better when Stansbury was on his staff.

I haven't ever met BK but everyone I know that has said he came across as a top flight person . Not just Aggies either.
