Go ahead and pencil us in for a 7-10 or 6-11 matchup with Maryland next March.
I think it's 60-40 we make tourney. I'm bullish, especially if we can add 6 more guys with 1-2 quality starter or starter adjacent type pieces
I was expecting us to be the worst team in the SEC, and maybe I need to put down the koolaid, but the quality of transfers that Bucky is getting is making me think that it's not out of the realm of possibility to make the tournament next year!
Uncertainty is very wide. The only thing Im pretty sure of is that we probably wont be in the top 4-5 in the league

I tend to agree, but I also think that's what it is. I'm not going to compare us to Cal and Pope with the rosters they put together with an immediate first year turnaround, but we have quite a squad coming together.bobinator said:

the most exciting part of this upcoming season is the complete unknown. we could be really good or terrible. completely different system with a blank canvas of a roster. it's wxciting at the very least but i do like some of the parts he is putting together. we have some guys who can shoot the rock.

We're a couple more quality guys from having a team that easily makes it. 7-13 record even makes the tourney. And we're assembling a team that should have a winning SEC record in Year 1.zgolfz85 said:

I imagine they've seen the players we've accumulated so far. If you haven't kept up, their averages add up to a team that should be right in the middle of a tough SEC conference, with a couple guys with high upside who haven't got the minutes yet.aggie-1997 said:

It's nearly impossible to project teams year over year anymore with how volatile the transfer landscape is.
Factors working against us will be trying to integrate an entirely new group of guys into a system that's unlike what 90% of them have been in before.
On the other hand, Bucky has a history of fast starts and the guys making up our top-6/7 should all be guys who contributed on winning teams.

Anyone picking us to be in the tournament right now is taking crazy pills and I couldn't be happier with the coaching hire. But, what would this be based on?
Look at our roster today and extrapolate the next 6 signees and compare to the bottom teams of the SEC that made it in this year....vandy, UGA, Mizzou, MSU, etc.t - cam said:

I don't think it's far off that level, at all
And, then factor in that those teams didn't have a ton of roster consistency as every roster is significantly turned over YOY now. We were the exception to the rule under buzz
Considering we had one player on the roster 3 weeks ago, being on the bubble is a significant step in the right direction!

I suspect the brand of basketball we will be playing will keep fans much more engaged. Even if we fail to make the tournament it should be a much more exciting and fun product to watch.

The more important question now that the teams are mostly turing over is, can the coaches bring in almost totally new players and have them fit together as a team. Players that look good on paper won't always gel into a good team.

The SEC may still be the top dog this season, who knows for sure until November, but no way SEC is getting nearly as many tourney teams in again.

Lunardi has no shame, but people eat it up so I can't blame him.
Why should I be embarrassed? All I said was that there were some people projecting us onto the tournament bubble next season, and that based on the talent we've acquired so far and the system with which we will play that I didn't think fighting for a tourney spot is that far out of the picture for us. I did not predict us to make the tournament.
I think we should slow down on expecting a losing record to make the Tourney or be on the bubble until we see how the conference actually performs in non conference.
