I've kind of diverted away from FB the last couple of years…..
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Count me in the 100% more excited for basketball camp! Hell, I wish we could fast-forward to November already.

without a doubt football is my favorite sport however i cannot disagree with the sentiment of excitement around the basketball program. i too am more excited for the start of basketball season than football. for me that is saying a lot.

I'm way more excited about Basketball. I've made a semi-vow to not watch football. Just pisses me off too badly. They have SO MUCH time to make adjustments and rarely seem to. Basketball is much faster and I tend to give more grace to the coaches.

I don't blame you. Football has taken a backseat for me for a while because of the constant underachieving. It's fun following a program that actually is consistent year in and year out with less. And now we just got a young coach that's hungry to win at a big school like A&M.

A&M sports have been more fun for me personally in the spring time (basketball and baseball).

That's because baseball and basketball have been consistently better than football, relative to funding.

Also people are more passionate about football so the letdowns hit them harder

I would love to win in football, but I'm not holding my breath there.

Hoops can be more fun because you can make deep tourney runs that are lots of fun and losses in the regular season aren't devastating to your season like they are in football.

I love the football offseason. Recruiting, spring practice, fall camp, all of that. I just eat it up. Almost without fail for my entire life, I make it about 1 month through football season before just giving up and moving on to my real passion which is basketball.

for me my annual schedule of attention is:

March-September- Football season
October-November- Hunting season
November-March- Basketball season no matter how good or bad we are.

I'm usually a bit more excited for basketball anyway but I really think football is going to completely suck this year. So definitely a lot more excited this year.

Mine is:

May-August - gardening season
Sept-Nov - NFL
Nov-March - College basketball

I largely don't follow college football any longer. The Aggies are mediocre, and NIL is making it on watchable.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Exactly. I think the college football format tends to make fans fatalistic lose a game and you lose most of your hope. Lose a second game and you are just waiting for next year. Not much has improved with a limited Tournament format. It makes for a very bipolar experience where medication doesn't help.

Yep

You've got only 12 playoff spots with dozens of schools thinking they should be in them every year

Hoops has 68 spots and even tiny cinderellas get a shot

I have somewhat jokingly made that same point. It does seem to me like the Ags tend to perform better in football when expectations aren't as high.

I legit think people are sleeping on our football team this year. I think we're going to be really good.

That said I'm always more excited for hoops, but especially this year. Some high major school was going to roll the dice on Bucky and see if his style could work at this level but I never imagined it would be us, it's just so out of character.

I can't wait to see the reaction in Reed for our first few games next year. It's going to be so jarring. They need to bring some extra medical staff for the fans.

Well people definitely weren't sleeping on us a few years ago where we started out as a top ten team in back to back seasons.

I get it, everyone thinks we're in a "here we go again" deal with Elko or they're just tired of hyping themselves up every offseason. And I'm sure by August they'll have hyped themselves up again, but right now I think the general fan vibe is undershooting how good we're actually going to be for once.

Men's basketball bringing in a larger and better transfer portal class than our football team was not on my bingo card for this off-season.

All this excitement should lead to much improved game attendance I assume? We had strong attendance last year, second all time as far as average sold tickets per game, but I want sellouts in conference if people are so excited. I actually want it to be mostly an increase in students at games, that would be so fun.

I agree with Bobinator that I have a strange positive feeling about the football team - not talking top 5 dominant team but a very solid across the board competent team that will be in every game at a minimum. We weren't far off of that last year, just ugly out of reach losses in 2 games, and I feel we are much improved.

I'm excited about the new coach and players in basketball, most excited about the new style of play, maybe less excited than some others about the level of success we will achieve this next year.

Last season was just an extremely weird year in Reed Arena. It's hard to capture exactly why, a lot of different factors were involved, but it just kind of felt like the vibe was off most of the year.

We objectively had one of our best years ever, but I don't think any home game except Auburn really had the same kind of juice as when the team and the fan base really seem hooked up.

Im usually a wait and see kind of guy but I cannot wait until October. I'm really really anxious and curious to see Bucky ball at A&M. Good gosh we've needed a high scoring team for so long now; we've been a grind it out team since BCG so I do not know what to expect.

However, when it comes to football, I'll stick to my wait and see mode. I think the less Coach Elko speaks, the better it will be. Let's cut the "wait until next year" chatter and stick to performance on the field. Go out and beat Notre Dame and tu at their house and i'll change my mode.

You could kind of see it against tu, but not nearly as good as I remember against Alabama in the previous year.
