Having literally cut my teeth on Shelby basketball (and I don't think there has ever been a coach at A&M since who wasn't a "defense first/3 point shot is a bad thing/press when it's convenient/67 point per game/muscle beats finesse" team) I'm trying to adjust psychologically to what we are about to see. Will the gods even let it within the city limits of College Station?? Will the ghosts of G. Rollie turn the court into fly paper to slow it all down? Parts of me hope so.........not really, but I'm seriously not sure I'll be able to believe what I'm seeing.

Shelby/Billy G./Billy K./Buzz, what say you?

I think 94 feet of defense sounds awfully close
to defense first.

Now the three ball? I'm in for that.

Excited to see a scoring team placed on the court that gives everything they have offense/defense/transition for 40 minutes. Excited to have a coach emphasize the purpose of the game…put the ball through the net more times than the opponent and not have to rely on excellent rebounding because you can't score. Excited to have a coach who is NCAA tournament focused that says the whole point of the regular season is to get in the big dance and make a deep run. Excited for a change in mentality.

Shelby only coached 4 yrs in the 3 pt era. I think it was a tough adjustment for the older coaches. Now it's a major part of the game and for good reason from a probability standpoint. If I recall correctly BCG incorporated the 3 ball pretty heavily into his defense first game and so did Billy Kennedy.

Jmo, Shelby was a damned good basketball coach. I think it was Dean Smith who said Shelby would be a slam dunk hall of fame coach if he had half the resources Dean had at North Carolina

What I hear Bucky say is they want to be great in all aspects of the game. I know I have to wait until November to see what it looks like but I am chomping at the bit to see this style played by an Aggie hoops team. It's going to be fun to see. It very well may be a bit ragged for awhile but I expect it starts to tighten up considerably by 2nd half of the season. Maybe wishful thinking but I think Bucky knows what he's doing and it will translate to this level of ball.

I am ready for a culture change. Ready to be an elite basketball school. Just need proof of concept next season and this could be the best decade ever coming up.

Just remember Acie Law's "the shot" was to win 46-43…

I'm excited to see that we'll have multiple guys that can get a hot hand and score, unlike last year when if Wade was off, we were in trouble.

For perspective:

6.5% of our points that day were scored in that moment.

I just want to make a deep run or two. There's lots of ways to get there.

But gonna come back to this during the season to look for people grumbling about defense

I'm absolutely certain it came from a long monologue where Buzz explained something about trying to be aware of your weak spots because if you give Murphy (as in Murphy's law) a chance to show up, he will, so you always have to be aware of where Murphy is.

I read this and assumed it was a joke. But then somebody else posted something similar on premium and now I can totally believe it

numbers according to the 12th man website in order of video appearance:

9 - Dominguez
33 - Federiko
4 - Vinson (love the number choice, don't love that he's not listed as Vinson IV on the roster)
1 - Holloway
5 - Lane
3 - Griffen
14 - McDermott
21(24) - He's 21 on the roster but in 24 in the video: Mgbako
12 - Agee (great jersey choice for a name that's almost "Aggie")

Isaacs, who will be wearing #2, is in the video but still not participating in full practices it looks like.

It's a joke in that I just made it up but not a joke in that I would bet solid money that's exactly what it is

Well, since the ' 60s, people were okay with stopping at a dirty dingy gas station to pee.

Then an Aggie brought Buccees to the world.

Now karma is bringing Bucky Ball to Aggies.

the universe has this.

Melvin believed in scoring 67 per game and giving up 90, so we were halfway there at least.

I for one won't miss buzz and his diatribes and sullen attitude or his powder blue Aggie gear…

Here's wishing the new dude from bama the best…if he sniffs success here you know he's headed right back to Alabama. then it will be up to Trev "Hyman" Alberts to find someone again…if he's still around.

When they say XXXX hit 34 3 pointers in a row???? and its verified, or whatever the numbers is, I dont care if its 12...

Not sure we made 34 3 pointers in a practice before.

To me this is a baseball line up where everyone hits .350 and everyone can go yard!

I can't wait!!!!!!!!

It sure seems like they should be able to have at least a couple of guys making shots on any given night. I'm hopeful that a few steals and effort on D will be enough to have a fun season.

I, for one, don't think the defense will be nearly as bad as his Samford defenses. They'll be leaky, sure, but Bucky didn't have much of a chance to get the kind of athletes that he can get here.

Based on how many white dudes he had on his teams, the lateral quickness here will be much better, at the very least.

I think, eventually, you're going to be right. I expect we'll be fine defensively under Bucky, even if a little unconventional.

I do have concerns about how this particular team, especially if Agee doesn't get cleared. is going to guard.

Agreed. If I had to guess the defensive metrics on this team will be pretty decent solely bc they'll turn people over. Not sure they're going to be great at getting non turnover stops, but I think the turnovers will help with the defensive metrics.

May be wrong though, so hard to tell with a completely new team.

Bucky is also a pretty advanced analytics guy so there's some levels there that people don't generally talk about but that I think he's going to take into account.

For example if your pressure is forcing a lot of two point shots and you're doing it without fouling the other teams overall offensive efficiency might be good but if you're taking a lot more threes and yours is even higher then you're okay with that.

But that whole house of cards is built on your own offense being extremely efficient. I think some people think Bucky is a pure old school "40 minutes of hell" kind of guy, and to some degree he might be, but he takes a much more analytical approach to it.

I said this before but it's like he and Buzz read the same book about basketball analytics but came to a different conclusion on how you get there.

Buzz decided he couldn't put a good offense on the floor so his best path was to just get up more shots and get to the free throw line as much as possible and make the game as ugly as possible for both teams. Bucky decided he's going to put the most efficient offense possible on the floor and see if the other team can keep up.

Agreed on Buzz. It's safe to say if you look at my posting history...I never was a buzz fan, and if I never hear his name again, I'd be more than happy.

As for Bucky sniffing success and bailing....we'll see. It's kind of the nature of the college game these days. Not going to see many 'long legacy' coaches in the future. Just the way it is. BUT....that would be a good problem to have where we're kicking a$$ and have to worry about our coach leaving...opposed to that last guy we had coaching....
