I don't believe in sharing stuff that's behind a paywall since journalists and outlets need to get paid for their coverage but in this case Tipton's article didn't have anything we don't already know.

I was hoping for an article comparing how we practice to how other teams practice which might give us a little insight on how unique (or not) our style is, but didn't really have that. Mostly just a dry injury/participation report.

Are y'all (media) getting more access to attend practice now too? I remember you mentioning in a thread the other day you had been attending some practices, is that something that happened at all with the previous staff?

It's not about competitive advantage with Buzz, at least not primarily. It's very much to create the "us against the world" mentality.

Now that said they did let a couple of national writers come to practice at least a couple of times, Buzz would open the door a crack sometimes if he thought the outlet/exposure was worth it.

Yeah the access i'm getting now is night and day different. I'll be at my 20th ish practice today since the start of summer workouts. Never got to attend a Buzz practice but then again I didn't really start making a name for myself on the beat until last season so I understand why my access was different. From what I know from other outlets, they were lucky to attend one Buzz practice a year. Bucky has embraced the media and welcomes them to any practice

Bucky actually talked in that Burning Sage podcast about how important building community is to him and I imagine this is part of that. That was actually an interesting part of the podcast I didn't mention because it's not directly basketball x's and o's related but I thought was interesting is that he talked about how you build support, especially at at football-first places from the ground up and by building community. Even talked about he's talked to Blair a lot about how to do that here.

The only thing not to like about Bucky is that he is an unproven commodity. I guarantee you, for example, that the ones who actually wanted to fire Buzz Williams over the past couple years would not have had Bucky McMillan at the top of their list for replacing him. He's done very well so far soothing most anyone's doubts, but his team hasn't stepped on the court yet, either.

Yeah, he's basically got the backup QB factor working where he's just completely unproven at this level.

Off the court I think he's definitely nailing it so far for sure.

Even I wouldve been like "who's that?" And I knew who he was, just not his name. You wouldve had to prompt me with the fact that he's the head coach at Samford before I wouldve been like "oh yeah" and remembered him from mainly one game in the Tournament the year before.

I saw Buzz up close as you could get to Buzz, even went on travel game with the team. Buzz overall might have been a good guy but he was just weird and I was never a fan of the product he put on the floor.
I am a big fan of Bucky so far and was in favor of hiring him.
But the proof is in the pudding.

I think Bucky comes off weird as well. Granted, I'm a fan of weirdos and you have to be pretty out there to be a head coach in college considering the investment it takes to be successful.
