I know Aggies have lamented over the years about BCG leaving for Kentucky all those years ago. He was a ticking time bomb, probably better than it went off at Kentucky than here.

I think everyone knew it was a ticking time bomb, but I think Billy Clyde expedited it by making the leap to Kentucky

No doubt, putting himself in that fishbowl made it all the more difficult to conceal things where Aggies looked the other way. But I don't even know if he'd have made it the two seasons he made at Kentucky.

I have always hoped BCG would get it all together at some point. But he's 65 years old now and nothing seems to have changed.

Copying my post from another thread:

That dude is fighting some serious demons in his life. I have no idea what this suspension is about, but trouble shows up wherever Gillespie shows up. I've followed him and rooted for him since I went to basketball camp at SW Texas State in 1983(?) or so. BCG was a grad student making extra money in the summer working that camp, and he was the coolest dude there...at least in the eyes of this then 8th grader.

I was so excited when A&M hired him. If he would have kept his mind right and paid attention to his health, I truly believe he could have been a 25-year HC at A&M with 25 post-season appearances.

The stories about the dude never unpacking the boxes at his place in College Station, and living off of peanut butter crackers (and bourbon), made us all aware he was wired like a maniac, but unfortunately that type of personality sometimes comes with a refusal to make sure you've got yourself in a good place mentally. I'll always root for him (even though he yelled at me at a banquet once)
