Our HS Basketball program and Booster Club are hosting our first weekend tournament this season. For those of you with experience attending high-schoolhosted tournaments (with an entry fee of $375 per team), what do you typically expect in terms of:

Team meals or snacks
Lunch vs. dinner accommodations
Hospitality room setup
Player or coach swag (if any)
General level of service/support

Trying to make sure we meet the standard and provide a great experience for all programs attending. Thanks in advance for the insight!

Man this brings back some memories of some amazing hospitality rooms back in the day. I've been out of the game for too long to contribute but I'm pretty sure the only reason anyone played in our holiday tournament in Kerrville was because the hospitality room food was so good.

People better be hit with the best smell ever when they walk into that hospitality room! (brisket, pork belly, tacos) They'll remember that! Player or coach swag may be a big cost, but it's something they'll have to remember the tournament by. A drawstring backpack with some goodies is always a solid idea. You can throw in a water bottle, stickers, coupons, a small towel, custom mini basketballs, little snacks, other goodies.

Never ran a basketball tourney, but from my experience with other sports, if you think you have enough volunteers or help, you don't lol. You can never have enough help. Keep the energy going between games, good music the kids would like, an announcer, and that sort of stuff.

Another big thing nowadays is a huge interactive bracket with movable names for each team to put their schools name to the next round! Players love that! It's also a good photo op!

A huge banner that can serve as a photo op is huge too and gets your name out there!

TBH depends on the size of the school. Been doing this for almost 20 years. Have a great hospitality room and be available if the team needs something. To me small schools don't do all the bells and whistles and its more about getting games for your kids. If its a big school tournament then teams expect all of the interactive brackets and all of that.

As a coach all I care about is game times and don't make me play every game in the back gym if using more than one gym. Most mad I have ever been was taking a team to an overnight tournament 3 days after Christmas and playing 6 games in their practice gym instead of their beautiful main gym. It rubbed me the wrong way and I will never go back to that tournament.

As far as coaches swag I could care less. To me do something for the kids like a tournament t-shirt or something. The kids will love it and its a way to promote your tournament.
