Game Preview
As the new year approaches, Christmas decorations coming down, Aggie football fans feeling disappointed, the air feeling cooler, it must mean one thing… March is upon us. The last Aggie sporting event before the year clocks 2026, takes place tonight as the Texas A&M Men's Basketball teams hosts Prairie View for its final non conference game.
The Aggies will have one last tune up before the SEC gauntlet commences against LSU Saturday at home. Tonight's game will be a great opportunity for those just tuning into basketball season to learn about this team. You'll get a good glimpse into Bucky Ball as we take on an inferior opponent. We'll press, we'll play fast, we'll shoot a lot of three's, we'll force turnovers, and hopefully we'll see everyone available on the court.
We have 8 guys averaging between 16 and 24 minutes and 5 guys averaging in double digits. Leading us in scoring is sharp shooter Ruben Dominguez at 13.7 ppg. Behind him is DAWG big man Rashaun Agee who averages 12.3 points and 7.8 in rebounds. We also have a bevy of guards who can shoot 3's and also attack the rim in Rylan Griffen, Marcus Hill, Josh Holloway, Pop Isaacs, and Jacari Lane. Mackenzie Mgbako is a big who can stretch the floor and get to the hoop. We have a trio of other bigs who rotate and are big in the pick and roll game between Jamie Vinson, Zach Clemence, and Federiko Federiko.
Scoring comes quick and in bunches with this team. It's at its best when the ball is moving constantly till someone is open. As the season has progressed we are getting better at moving off the ball and finding open lanes to the basket or getting behind a defense for an open 3. Bucky ball will be fun to watch and a breath of fresh air for those just tuning in. Defensively, if you're new to Bucky Ball, buckle up lol. Due to our fact pass and aggressive pressing, we will give up some easy transition baskets. We don't really have lock down dominant defenders, but must play great defense as a team and make opposing offenses uncomfortable.
As for tonight's game, it won't be much of an indicator on where this team is at. You can't take to much from it, but you still want to see some efficient offense and some good defensive play. However, PVAMU won't be a cake walk. They've put up fights with their most recent game against LSU being close for most of it. They can get hot if you let them. They are led by #3 Tai'Reon Joseph who averages 22 ppg. He's a volume shooter and can get going quickly.
Hopefully we get the whole line up in, but I can also see us resting some if needed. You just want to have everything clicking before conference play begins. Assuming a win, that would put us at 10 non conference wins. The losses on their own each hurt in its own way, but 10-3 is solid for a first year coach with a brand new team. Let's stay healthy, BTHO Prairie View and get going for conference play Saturday afternoon!
