Huge win yesterday. Lose that one and we're in serious trouble.
We gave up several easy baskets but not as many as I feared being more spread out. I was surprised lsu didn't attack more early…to our advantage.
To be able to win a relatively low scoring game is surprising. I was afraid it would have to be a shootout to win…so we have really shored up the defense compared to early on.
Playing an undersized lineup so many minutes really shows how hard we fought on the boards to out rebound a bigger team. Impressive and a credit to Bucky.
I like our offense. I thought we got good looks for the vast majority of game. I like how quickly we run our stuff…not much holding the ball and going one on one. There was a moment where hill was dribbling too much…pretty sure he was pulled shortly thereafter and wasn't in the game down the stretch.
Speaking of the lineup, I think this is the most we've seen pop and lane playing together. Hill has been fearless and effective driving the ball and is a definite asset, but I can see the value of having two of your better ball handlers (theoretically) in the game together.
Speaking of ball handling, we had too many preventable turnovers…largely from Agee and lane and Holloway early on. I think this can be cleaned up and shows room for growth.
Speaking of turnovers, pop. Pop was huge. Handled the ball very well, several assists without forcing it. Pretty sure he's feeling much more comfortable reading the defense with what we're running. This is a giant positive development for our team.
I doubt Dibba can consistently provide this kind of production, but if he can do it occasionally I would take it. He was fantastic. I'm pretty sure Bucky had Donna in the game late in defensive situations so I think he's considered one of our better defenders, so if he can provide similar offensive production with his defense, that is big for the team.
We can shoot better and I think we will. I thought we got good looks mostly and I think it's a matter of comfort with the offense and being comfortable with the speed of the game. I feel confident most night we will shoot better. So, in addition to winning while outsized and with too many turnover, being able to win without shooting our best is a very good sign.
Speaking of shooting, we need rylen Griffen to play and shoot better. I think he has shown enough that I think it's likely but yesterday was rough for him.
I think we are going to need more quality minutes from federiko or clemence or Vinson in order to compete most nights on the boards. I liked some of what I saw from fed, but I think Bucky just loves to have that offensive skill on the floor that fed doesn't have. They've all had flashes but just very hot and cold.
Oh yeah, make a free throw. That was rough. Pretty sure this will be better most nights.
