Crazy game obviously. The most painful incarnation of a ref show at the end. Phantom jump ball when we called timeout. Adding time at every possible opportunity. Coup de grace of a free stoppage for Auburn to run an inbounds play.
Auburn also shot 11 more free throws than us and they did more intentional fouling. Some really questionable foul calls. In general college basketball refs are poor at best. Early in the game when Ruben got fouled on the made 3 and it wasn't called and then moments later Auburn gets the call on the same play was emblematic.
Game had many hallmarks of the season to date.
Shot great from 3 (43%). At times our shot selection is highly questionable. We had a stretch of hard bricks shooting near the logo. In some part that comes with the territory. Ruben seems to be moving better to get open looks. Jacari and Pop were nails.
I'm impressed with our ability to make some tough 2s. We shot 62% from 2.
Have to stamp out the lazy passes, those have been killers at times.
We really struggle with trying to slow the game down on offense and basically let the other team take Bucky Ball defense to us. It looks very unnatural, struggling to get the ball across the court then if we do we hold it until 10 seconds and then looks like there is no planned action/plays to run, just hoping for some improvisation.
We have been prone to letting teams go on runs but have shown good ability to punch back. That 11 point stretch was crazy, reminiscent of the Northern Iowa tourney game.
I would also say we don't feel very clutch, tonight it was late game turnovers and missed free throws. Hopefully these close wins will bring out some better late game confidence.
