The game should have been over after the missed free throw with 2. Seconds but a clock malfunction gave them .6 seconds
They may call it a clock malfunction, but in reality it was the refs stopping the game because Pearl was screaming the ball didn't hit the rim and they gave him what he wanted.
A clock malfunction at a critical point in the game - on the road?! I'm shocked!
I get the fact it was a hostile, exciting situation. But before that intentional FT miss you think the head ref would have pulled his team together and discussed what to do in certain situations. They seemed clueless and reactive to the crowd and coach Pearl.
But the league should absolutely punish Auburn for their fans throwing objects at our coaches and players. No way that should be tolerated.

It reminded me of when tech fans attacked Barone after a game in Lubbock. Joe Wilbert adjudicated that situation quite handily

They should have been throwing stuff at the refs. Not because they missed the last call which I don't think they did but because they were really bad for most of the game and they totally botched the end . The 3 pt shot ruling and subsequent 3 foul shots at the end of the half was about as bad as it gets.

just think of the shenanigans that used to happy in the old days before TV, esp in those regional conferences like the SWC.
In the old days Auburn would have won the game and nobody would have seen any footage of that last shot or any of the other calls.

Kind of like what we did at Tech back in 2002 or so. I remember Melvin Watkins hustling the team off the floor and onto the bus to leave without even letting the guys shower.

EVERY time the refs look at a clock issue, they always add time….everytime
Seeing objects thrown on the floor after the game was disheartening as an Auburn guy. Should never be tolerated. I'm glad it didn't escalate--luckily it was only a few people acting out (still unacceptable)--and glad nobody was hurt.
I wonder if the teams and coaches even did the ceremonial hand shakes after the game? Probably not given how chaotic the ending was. I'd like to think Aggies would not do this or self-police if a few did this at a game but then I remember the unacceptable behavior by a couple of Aggies at a baseball game in Austin a couple of years ago. If I remember correctly, Dr. Metcalf did his pH.D. thesis on crowd control at sporting events. Mob mentality can be a scary thing.

It should be extremely easy to find a few people that were doing this and make examples of them to try to prevent these dangerous situations in the future. But like the Texas vs Georgia game we will probably never hear anything more about this.

He could have hit the cop too. In which case he would have probably been immediately tackled to the ground and sent to jail for the night.
He should at a minimum not be allowed back in the arena for a while. I'm sure with those seats and that level of "passion" the Auburn athletic department knows exactly who this was.
This is definitely not as fun as the old Shelby Metcalf story when Tech started throwing change as we walked off the court. He told the team "Guys, show some class. Don't pick up anything under a quarter."
Bucky mentioned it at the end of his presser today. He said he lives for stuff like that, going into a hostile environment and winning and getting hustled off the court by security as fans throw stuff at you. "I live for that"

Probably didn't happen very often at Samford University or Mountain Brook High School games.
