Since the fall of the Soviet Union the only A&M men's basketball coach to win in Austin is, unbelievably, Melvin Watkins, but on paper this is an extremely close matchup.
Starting this one today because Texas plays Vandy tonight and I think that game is going to tell us a little bit. Us and Vandy are a little similar offensively so we'll see what Texas does defensively. Probably doesn't help us any that they play them before they play us, but at least it's on Wednesday so they have one less day of rest.

A few quick hitters on Texas:
- Like LSU and Oklahoma, they've been awful defensively this season, currently ranking #123 on Torvik
- They don't force many turnovers but they also foul a ton at the same time which is an interesting combination, we foul a lot but we also force a lot of turnovers
- Tonight's game will be interesting because I thought Texas looked a lot better against Alabama playing at tempo than they have in other games where they seem to get bogged down in the half court at times. Will be interesting to see if they try to play at Vandy's speed or slow it down
- Texas does one thing better than anyone in the country, and this game is in Austin so you might as well mentally fortify yourself now, but they are #1 in the country in free throw rate
- Because Texas' coach got fired and wasn't hired someone else, they have an unusual amount of returning players for a first year coach. Our old friend Tramon Mark is still there as is Chendall Weaver
