I love him but his minutes tonight were a wasted player. He's too unauthentic to get himself open. Give his minutes to anybody else on a night like tonight.
Not a great game for him (not a great matchup), but he contributed in some key areas.
1) We scored 97 points on the road. His lack of scoring didn't hurt us.
2) In this offense, there is probably never going to be a "feature player." It's about the system and getting the correct looks. He only took 2 shots, but he had 4 assists and 3 rebounds and 0 TOs. So instead of forcing up looks to try to get into rhythm, he distributed the ball and didnt hurt us. He also only had 2 fouls.
If Rueben has open looks, he needs to take them and make them. What he doesn't need to do is force shots or turn it over.
So, yes, he's got to work harder to get open, and I wish he would go to the rim a little more, but this "bad game" for him didn't hurt as AT ALL. It's pretty clear he's recognizing that he's "being taken away" and is finding other ways to impact the game when he can't get open looks.

I love watching him shoot, but he's just too slow. If our other guys keep producing from three, eventually our opponents will have to peel off of Dominguez. But unless he miraculously gets faster overnight, he's not going to get a lot of looks against good teams.

The only real criticism I have of Bucky and our offense is there is too much standing around. It's an option based offense, but imagine if we ran like seven or eight plays a game where it is literally just running Dominguez through screens until he can come off a hook and be open.

I do think we/he could have found a way to get more in the stat sheet but they did put attention on him.

He's not athletic enough to get shots against a team like Bama. It wasn't really surprising.
Their quicker guards were blowing by him on defense . There was a pretty long stretch where they were clearly attacking him. I don't think there was much we could do about it. On offense tho they were obviously trying to stay in his shorts and that opened up other opportunities
Ags played well and it could have gone either way. There were definitely some big positives. Vinson looked good with 9 pts , 4 boards and a block in just 8 mins. Bama is a lot bigger than we are but we held our own in the paint and on the boards. Hill was an animal. Lots of good takeaways from the game.

its ok if he disappears but we only had three guys in double figures tonight. That can not happen we got 9 from Vinson which was a bonus but Issacs, Ruben, Dibba, Klemence 17 total. Thats not gonna cut it.

its a testament to Bucky and how hard these guys play we have no business being in these games and if buzz or BK were coaching wed got hammered by 30 or more.

When teams double team him and push him way out on the perimeter, other players have to step up. This is how it should work.
Bottom line is they did. We score over our season average. We lost this on D.
Bama did a nice job defending him and he only got two shots off. At least he didn't force shots up, but he probably could have come off more screens off the ball.

I think it's easy to look at his stats and assume his presence isn't felt, but he is a bit like an elite defensive end who regularly draws an extra blocker and gives his teammates more one-on-ones.
Our pick and roll game was strong tonight, and part of the reason was the lack of help from Bama's wing defenders who had to honor our shooting.

Not the point imo Gordo, He's a great asset but weak on defense and doesn't rebound well. So when he doesn't score he doesn't offer much
If he eats the opponents best wing defender the entire game that's still doing something. There's a reason there's so much space on the court for everyone else.
My only offensive criticism is one we've had for a few games, we're getting great looks on cuts but our guards have to finish better

If Alabama would have been called for the holding they were doing on him in the first half we would have been shooting free throws 10 minutes into the game.
We missed several bunnies at the rim tonight. Just the thought of their length had us altering some shots that weren't really contested and we just needed to take up strong instead of trying to finesse it.

This is the one i don't understand, how many times at the end of the game is he going to get out hustled on a missed FT? Is he really our best rebounder in that situation?

I think in some games he can do more, but Alabama is ultra athletic and he is not. If a team is gonna use a 6-5 or taller wing that's an athletic high level defender to just stick to him there's no much we can do about it without completely throwing off everything else. Have to just use it to create space for other players. Would be different if we didn't have other shooters but we do.

that same Spaniard is the reason why so many other guys are getting a lot of space, and some really good looks.
There are lots of clever ways to get open. Curry's always done it, though he is faster. Dirk is a good example, like after the first 2 games in the 2011 NBA finals vs the tall and athletic Miami Heat. He cleverly got himself open after those two games. Jason Terry was also clever getting himself open albeit a faster guy.
Like one example is you can jump to appear to be taking a jump shot, but pass it to your teammate and then they give it right back to you for the shot. Requires creativity. Could be a process. NBA prolly has more assistants for figuring that stuff out like in my Mavs examples.
