Disclaimer: This is for informational purposes only and I am not a professional better. Your bet is your bet. Not my fault. This is for fun. Or for me, this is actually bets that I will make.
I will leave the trends of the NCAA tournament for once the bracket comes out. Everyone and their mother publishes something like that.
Current Odds for NCAA Tournament Winner on Ceasar's
Michigan +375
Duke +390
Arizona +450
Houston +950
Florida +975
Illinois +1200
UConn +1200
Iowa State +1500
Everyone else is +3000 or worse. Texas A&M is +50000 (or 500-1) odds.
I currently have bets on Michigan +375, Duke +450, Arizona +450, Florida +1100, Illinois +1200, and UConn at +1700 as I think regardless of where they get placed in the bracket, they have a great chance to get to the final four. And if you can make it to the final four, anything is possible. I also placed a $5 bet on Texas A&M at +30000 that will pay $1,505! Haha! If for some miracle A&M makes it to the final four, I will be hedging the crap out of A&M. Honestly, just a pure homer bet.
But if you like a team, no matter the odds now, place the bet now. The odds will go down considerably once the bracket is published.
Outside of the top 6 teams in my eyes, there are other teams that may do well depending on the matchups they get. These teams have the talent to win it all, but may lack a little bit more than those top 6 teams. If they get the right matchups, stay healthy, and get lucky, they can go very far in the tournament.
Defensive Teams, but may lack the necessary offense to win it all
Iowa State - 18th best offense, 7th best defense
Houston - 16th best offense, 8th best defense
Virginia +8000 - 24th best offemse, 15th best defense
Michigan State +4500 - 36th best offense, 6th best defense
St. Johns +8000 - 54th best offense, 16th best defense
Tennessee +7500 - 37th best offense, 14th best defense
Nebraska +8000 - 52nd best offense, 5th best defense
Kansas +3000 - 44th best offense, 10th best defense
Gonzaga +5000 - 22nd best offense, 12 best defense
Offensive Teams, but may lack the necessary defense to win it all
Purdue +3200 - 2nd best offense, 29th best defense
Vandy +8000 - 12th best offense, 21st best defense
Alabama +6500 - 3rd best offense, 66th best defense
Arkansas +5000 - 4th best offense, 48th best defense
Texas Tech +9000 - 11th best offense, 31st best defense
Louisville +8000 - 15th best offense, 28th best defense
Others of note
UNC +8000 - 32nd best offense, 39th best defense
Anyone outside this above list is not a serious contender for the championship. We always have our FAUs, San Diego States, George Masons, VCUs, but I think that era is coming to a close due to the transfer portal. They will be fewer and fewer of them in the future. That said, a lower ranked power team like UConn made a run a few years back.
But there is more than just betting the champion. Once the brackets come out, you can bet the winner of each regional, who will make elite eights, and sweet sixteens. Here is where those longshots come into play. This is where you might bet the Utah State or Saint Louis to get to an Elite Eight. Chances are, power teams ranked 6 through 11 are your most likely candidates. I am thinking that we might have one non-power team make the sweet sixteen.
I, personally, bet every game of the tournament. I keep my bets small at the beginning and increase as the game volume decreases. I bet futures at the beginning of the tournament as well for each of the levels I mentioned earlier.
My favorite sporting event of the year is by far the opening weekend of March Madness. 4 straight days of noon to midnight basketball with money on the line! Good luck!
