I'm an old Ag and just got back to Houston after attending my 5th game this season and the student crowd was sad. Empty upper deck and maybe 50% full in the lower bowls on both ends. We're playing a blue blood in our last home game of the season where a win gives us another Quad 1 win and back on pace for making the tourney. With an awesome coach, entirely new roster of guys who hustle their asses off, and an exciting brand of basketball….. pretty phenomenal we're in this position to begin with.

What gives? Were you guys at the mid week baseball game that started at 4 pm? Bunch of tests tomorrow? What's the excuse? My last year we went 0-16 with Melvin Watkins but we'd at least have a pretty full crowd against teams like Kansas. Seriously hope you guys do better next year because you're missing some good basketball

New army sucks and so do Aggie fans as a whole outside of football.....Which NEVER delivers anything but heartache.

As a current student, we have terrible marketing when it comes to basketball. We choose to market for the big games and just say whatever about the others hoping that people show up.

Playing Kentucky, a blue blood program, with our March Lives on the Line needs to marketing.

I don't get the bad marketing thing. You can download a printable schedule online-line, you can download a schedule to your iOS or Android device- heck, you can pretty much download the entire fall and spring schedules for every sport. You can set reminders for days or hours in advance.

Sure kentucky is a blue blood, but in front of a sold out crowd against both florida and texas, where florida was that same mid week wednesday game, this team played two of their worst games of the season. I'm usually at all the games, and after that texas game, in which there wasn't a single moment for either side where it seemed the game was entertaining to watch, I decided I didn't want to put the 5 hours towards going early, being there before tip, watching, and leaving. I honestly thought we were gonna get worked after the product that got put out on saturday, in which we were physically and mentally dominated. I think many thought the same.

There were tons of students at the bar watching the game.

Free crawfish probably helped with that one.

Week before spring break is generally gruesome from an academic point of view basically every class will have a test or project

New army has way too many good students

Imagine getting twisted panties because actual students have other priorities and don't want to watch paid athletes who pretend to be students.

Surprise! It's this thread!

Great win Aggies. BTHOlsu and the SEC tourney!

If it wasn't so loud, the students could study for their midterms. They all went to the library instead.

I remember that distinctly. It was the only excitement for the year. (In basketball). I called the ticket office because a bunch of us were going and I was afraid they'd sell out. I literally got laughed at and told we were good.

It was a decent crowd, great by that to year's standards. By half though no one wanted to hang around.

Old Army wasn't always ride or die.

The DJ is horrible. I made a round trip from Houston to be there with my family and the DJ was playing LOUD non-stop, even over our student yells led by the yell leaders. Not good for the atmosphere.

This! If you want to build a brand that gets people in the seats on Tuesday or Wednesday, you need to play and win a few competitive games on Saturday.

Yells led by yell leaders are equally poorly placed at basketball games. Thanks for noting that.

A&M has problems turning out attendance for anything other than football. The comment on marketing addressed an advertising problem that requires timely notification of upcoming events not strictly marketing. But the notion that our marketing creates demand might be under thought.

Bucky turned nothing into something likely an NCAA bid. But most folks in College Station (not just students) aren't really excited about it. Even some posters here are just posting garbage that appears to be trolling rather than seeing what is happening.

Until the community stops being self-absorbed and enjoys what is "happening" (in a 60s sense), this likely will stay the same. I've never been a fan of spreading enthusiasm through guilt. And A&M has a history of doing exactly that.

I live 2 1/2 hours from B/CS and I have been to 4 games this year. I'm not sure I even noticed the DJ more than a couple of times. The yells are a *terrible* fit for basketball. Just terrible. I have no beef with the Yell Leaders one way or the other, but they are a fish out of water at a college basketball game. What the students come up with on their own will always be more effective than any yell.

College basketball is meant to be fun, fast paced, and loud. You can't get that with "Farmers Fight!" or "Load-Ready-Aim-Fire BOOM!" during timeouts or stoppages in play. We did "Sit Down Bus Driver" a couple of times last night and it was weak and ineffective. It just doesn't work.
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

Personally have 3 separate exams and 3 separate papers due before Friday. I simply watched baseball + basketball while having a beer and studying. Y'all old heads forget students have more to do than just watch basketball games.

I don't think old army which sold probably 1,000 tickets to Kentucky fans have any place to talk.

Simple truth of this season is that while it's been great for us hardcore fans who know and follow the whole situation, we were ranked for one week and then immediately went on a losing streak. We lost to everyone good we played in non-conference. In our first big Saturday game with a packed house we absolutely got destroyed. Your average fan or student probably has no idea that our game against an unranked Kentucky team was crucial to make the NCAA Tournament, etc.

It just is what it is. Win big games, get ranked, be good all season, and then you can complain about bad crowds.

It was pitiful. Must win game against a blue blood program with 2000+ empty seats . Someone in the athletic department needs to do some serious soul searching because whatever it takes you have to fill up the place for this kind of game whatever it takes . Promote , promote , promote . Let em in for $1 and you'll still be money ahead due to concessions.

That's fine . I get that . It only takes 5-10% of the student body to fill up the GA seats tho.

To answer other posters question about why does it need to be marketed . I don't know the answer but it's clear that it does so do your job and just do it athletic department . We don't have a great winning history in this sport altho it's not terrible either. Until we do it's going to need to be promoted.

So what was the excuse for the Ole Miss game that I was also at which had an entirely empty upper deck as well?
