Nebraska vs Vanderbilt rooting interest?

All -

I was thinking about the make-up of who the arena would be rooting for in our game, and figuring that it will depend on who Nebraska fans decide to root for (I assume us, just for the underdog aspect).

But then I got intrigued - who would Aggies break for watching the Vandy-Nebraska game? It's a 4-5 matchup of 2 power conference teams. Although we've shared a conference with each of them, neither is a rival - in FB, only 14 games against the Huskers, and 3 against Vandy. And while there might be pressure to go with Vandy to support a fellow conference member who we have no animosity towards, my intuition is that Aggies might feel more aligned with Nebraska, both culturally, and from the shared history of fleeing t.u. influence over the B12.

Moreover, while Nebraska is historical football royalty, and Vandy the historical laughingstock, in basketball it is Nebraska who is the historical underdog.

Anyways, I'll be rooting for the Huskers because I have a friend who is excited for it. But I was just wondering how other Aggies felt.

Some huskers may still be upset about Volleyball, as well as their AD leaving when it comes to their rooting interest

My neighbor is a Husker and every one of those guys I've met are quality. Every Vandy guy? Pompous elitist. Not hard.

Nebraska fan base is mad at us for stealing Trev Alberts and more recently beating them in volleyball. I would be surprised if they cheer for us, even though we are the underdog.

I work with several Huskers (live in the midwest) and great people! Very similar fanbase to us. They aren't pompous and wear their historical achievements (i.e. Osbourne error football) like a crown unlike other alumni bases we know. They were even complimentary of our volleyball win and glad it was us if it was anyone.

It's the tourney. Fans whose team isn't playing will always be rooting for the dog.

It'll be a pro-Ag arena tomorrow.

Vandy, all day, every day. But I have a rooting interest there so I'm biased. Prefer to see the SEC team win if for no other reason than to shut up talk about conference being weak/down/etc. Wasn't even too put out with the sips beating the Mormons last night, even though that was a "root for the comet" game.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

I got some Trev Alberts comments in the restroom last night from Husker fans. My comment back was he sure seems to know how to pick basketball coaches. There was no response. I believe Albert's picked Hoiberg. Edited to say I looked it up and Albert's did not hire Hoiberg.

Overall Nebraska fans are a good bunch imo. Don't really have any experience with Vandy fans. I'll probably end up pulling for Nebraska.

Man, imagine being this far removed from an athletic director, not even a coach, leaving and still being butthurt about it.

Well. He was a Husker legend. Imagine Von Miller as our AD and he leaves to go to another school. It would stick with you.

Have to root for Vandy I think because we know they can beat Florida. If the Ags are going to make a miracle run to the final four, I think we need someone to knock out Florida for us.

Same. Heard them at the bar we went to between sessions and as we were walking out after our game from some guy riding an electric bike passing in front of us. Was the first Men's tournament game experience for my son and I, but couldn't have imagined we would be subjected to AD smack talk. Nary a word about volleyball, tho...

Will be rooting for the Huskers. The literal sea of red and the sound level of their support was one of the most impressive scenes I've ever witnessed at a college sporting event. Made the Ags presence look very lukewarm in comparison.

GO BIG RED!!!

Honestly, Florida looked like they kinda laid down for Vandy. Kinda like we did vs Oklahoma, like they were more interested in the extra rest than anything bc they knew their spot was likely locked in. If Florida played Vandy right now in the dance they'd destroy the Dores

It's always possible, but I've never known a coach to intentionally draw up a game plan to lose. And if the plan was to lay down, why play all your normal starters for 30+ minutes risking injury in a game you are trying to lose on purpose? They were down big at the half and still played their starters. Their matchup early in the season was a close game as well which further argues that Vandy might just be a competitive matchup for them.

Husker fans are solid. They absolutely flooded OKC and it paid off big time for them. I'm sure the Sooners that dared go out were disgusted haha

I don't like Nebraska, but it's hard to begrudge them the excitement for a program that had never won a game in the Dance. They desperately want to support their winning programs.

It doesn't quite seem like it's Indiana in football as far as first steps, but mathematically it's pretty close in making the Sweet 16 and IU making the 12 team playoff season before last. Hopefully that's as far as the comparison goes.
