Tomorrow morning, Bucky will be recruiting tall athletes that can shoot the ball.

The 2026 NCAA Division I men's basketball transfer portal opens on April 7, 2026, the day after the National Championship game, and runs for 15 days, closing on April 21, 2026. This shortened, two-week window applies to both men's and women's basketball, following new NCAA rules.
Hey...so.. um

Are those dates when athletes can enter the portal or they have to sign by then? Former right?

Teams that lose a coach and need to hire a coach are screwed with a 2 week window.

That's for when players are eligible to enter their names, they can still sign after that window

That's 2 week to enter the portal, not that players have to decide in those 2 weeks

No doubt there are already lots of "student-athletes" who have made their desires known that a different school will provide better academic opportunities for their quest to learn.

They should open the portal the Monday after the Elite 8...make the Final Four weekend that much crazier.

In watching the St. John's vs. Kansas game, I saw what Bucky is building. I think he will have better shooters that St. Johns but athletic big men that can score with the press is pretty impressive. If they beat Duke, they may change a ton of basketball strategy.

St. John's very much like the 90's Kentucky teams, sans the shooting. Bucky has stated multiple times that one of his coaching idols was Pitino and he loved the pressing style of those Kentucky teams.

I'd go get that Australian point guard from St. Mary's now that their coach is moving to Arizona State. After that post game press conference, I can't imagine wanting to play for Bennett.

The St. Mary's slow 7'3 C is in the portal. Too slow. His head was spinning.

Looking at teams that just lost their coaches so their players are likely prone to enter the portal. A few intriguing names if they enter the portal and don't follow their coach.

Dillon Shaw a 6'7" freshman wing from Saint Mary's.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/5313031/dillan-shaw

Mikey Lewis a 6'3" sophomore combo guard from Saint Mary's

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5240980/mikey-lewis

Christian Hammond a 6'4" sophomore point from Santa Clara (247 has him listed in the portal despite Sendek still being there.)

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5176359/christian-hammond

Paul McNeil Jr. a 6'5" guard from NC State

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4873151/paul-mcneil-jr

Matt Able a 6'6" freshman guard from NC State

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5196877/matt-able

Derek Dixon a 6'5" freshman guard from UNC

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5144097/derek-dixon

Jamier Jones a 6'6" freshman wing from Providence

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5041949/jamier-jones

Oswin Erhunmwunse a 6'10" sophomore F/C from Providence, shooting numbers aren't great but rebound and block numbers are interesting. Tho he may be a Fede type player which would not be good.

Chris Davis Jr. a 6'4" freshman guard from Charleston

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/5313548/chris-davis-jr

Chadlyn Traylor a 6'3" freshman guard from Charleston

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5313546/chadlyn-traylor

Chol Machot a 7'0" sophomore center from Charleston

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/5313550/chol-machot

Isaac Celiscar a 6'6" sophomore wing from Yale (Yale hasn't lost their coaches but 247 has this kid listed in the portal)

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5241754/isaac-celiscar

All will have 2-3 years left of eligibility and all have intriguing skill sets that could allow them to be successful in the system. Also, most of them have great positional size.

Another one that could be intriguing is Sam Orme a 6'9" sophomore forward from Belmont.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5176310/sam-orme

I really want the Dixon kid from UNC but he's gonna be out of our price range I think

Also, really like this kid too. DeSean Goode a 6'8" sophomore forward from Robert Morris.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5241658/desean-goode

As well as RJ Johnson a 6'4" sophomore guard from Kennesaw State who played high school ball in Huntsville Alabama. FT numbers scare me so it could be similar to the Harwell kid.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5176186/rj-johnson
