Buzz Williams just went 12-21 at Maryland. How are they #1 in recruiting? It's gotta be more than NIL money.

You don't just commit to Maryland to play basketball for Buzz Williams.

You commit to #getbetter

That means getting better at shaking hands, changing tires. Perfecting small talk on long distance phone calls. Establishing a consistent and unique signature and definitely improving your reading skills.

Unfortunately the sips will overtake them when Marcus Spears' kid commits to them.

Thank you notes are written and mailed to the players after recruiting calls. Modern players really respond to that sort of thing.

Buzz couldn't or wouldn't recruit here but is now going nuts.

Let buzz go. We got we want.

Recruits probably can't shoot free throw or threes.

Its #1 in portal + HS recruiting which is kind of a weird thing to lump together. It's also super early in the portal. He also benefited from getting a top 12 HS player that was probably going to Maryland regardless of who was coaching.

Buzz was not one to try terribly hard to drum up money for NIL, which you have to do at Texas A&M. Bucky wants to be out int he community and meeting everyone and selling A&M basketball and himself. Buzz is fortunate that Maryland is a basketball school and he doesn't really have to go ask for the money.

This is 2026 class and Spears is 2027, unless he is reclassifying.

Buzz is a piece of work. He refused to do NIL here. Had a terrble year at Maryland and guess what. He is now doing NIL.

"Refused to do NIL here" and "now doing NIL" is such a weird way to phrase the situation.

He did NIL here, do we think the players were playing for free? Or that highly sought after transfers like Payne, Phelps, Dennis, etc. just liked his vibes?

Buzz was "doing NIL" here, he just wasn't going to go around begging for more money. And then he was rubbing people the wrong way with how he was spending it so didn't get as much as he could have.

Maryland's coach left them for Villanova and basically made them sound broke on the way out, so Maryland is giving him a much bigger purse to work with without him doing anything different than he did here.

I hope Baba Oladotun enjoys learning to miss shots in the most rebounding efficient manner possible.

Baba won't miss shots. He's 6'9, can handle the ball and is a pure shooter.
I don't see how Buzz will use him but the kid can play

not willing to work to max his nil budget is harder to quicky say than he didn't do nil. This similar to saying a guy doesn't recruit... Of course he does bring in players (recruiting)...just means the guy doesn't recruit well.

Long story short he was too big of a ***** to fully do his job recruiting while he was here.

Sure but my point is I doubt he's doing anything new at Maryland, he just has a bigger default bag.

I'm sure the short and squat men's suit store could pitch in a half mil or so to keep him in a new getup every night. I always wondered where all those once used suits went…

What I'm more curious on is how Buzz adapts to having this talent. How will guys like Wagner, Boswell, Oladotun handle basketball not always being put first. How do they handle story time and love letters over working on their draft stock… I feel like Buzz's system only works with complete buy in and with guys who play with a chip on their shoulder, I'm really curious how it unfolds

Ok screw Buzz. What about the guy from Tenn we just picked up, Cade Phillips? Scrapper or scraps? Looks good on paper.

He's signing the class that he will carefully nurture in his second season, be a bubble team his 3rd season, and when they are juniors and seniors he will lead them to second round exits before leaving a roster populated by intramural studs and Tony Barone's grandson.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough
