Does it have a Rice/SMU feel to the atmosphere?

I'd call it a "TCU feel" to it.

i have attended a coupla games at vanderbuilt. i have never seen a fanbase that cares less about sports. the stadium only seats about 40k and it is not unusual to see at least half of them to be visitors. there is virtually no tailgating. the vandy fans (i'm lsu) will just walk by your tailgate and refuse to stop to sample the food or the drink. to say it's the most boring venue ever is an understatement. nashville, however is a great city and one of the best cities to visit in the country. if y'all play vandy at home, take some time off and plan to spend a few days seeing the sights and listening to first rate live music. best live music in the country, esp if you know where to go.

Sounds like Waco except for the nice comments about the city.

Never been to a game there but I have been to the campus and it is very nice. Agree that Nashville is a great town, it's kind of like Austin in a lot of ways. I will make the trip just to hang out in Nashville for a couple days. I expect the game atmosphere to blow.

I roadtripped their 2 years ago for the LSU game and ended up skipping the game and watching it in a bar on Broadway

If the music in Nashville is anything like the crap Nashville puts on the radio, no thank you. Every year country music gets worse and freakin worse. I blame Nashville and the dipsharts in Georgia (since most of the truly awful "singers" tend to come from that sharthole of a state).

Went to some games at Vandy when my daughter was in school. Great place for a road trip.

I have, since I lived near Nashville. There is no gameday/tailgating, just forget about that. Stadium is nice, Vanderbilt fans are generally cool and mainly there for some other reason, like it's a date night, or whatever.

Overall, like other posters said, boring gameday, great town, great food around town, polite fans.

Edit: Changed "opposing fans are generally cool" to "Vanderbilt fans are generally cool" since technically, even though you outnumber them, when in Nashville you're the 'opposing fans'

The place is a sea of orange when UT plays there. It's still like that, even though UT sucks donkey balls now. The Vandy student section usually starts filing in late in the first quarter.
