I don't get how all the Florida folks act as though he left this disaster in Gainesville. He had Top 10 and Top 5 classes of talent left behind. The Florida folks begged him to stay after he tried to quit and he hung around one more year. I know there were a lot of problems that last year and with players leaving but that is at least half on Florida for not just letting him go the first time. Once a coach wants to quit (esp for the reasons he did) you need to let them go (esp in the SEC).
You can argue whether he should have stayed that last year, but that he left a mess is undeniable, he even admitted the program was "broken" after he left. I could regale you with stories about the lack of discipline ( Janoris Jenkins getting booted by champ after his third offense and JJ saying Meyer wouldn't have cared), the horrible recruiting strategy that left us with mismatched and in many cases useless talent on offense (part spread part pro style), the deep team divisions ( the offense refused to get off the bus in Tampa for his last game until Meyer would promise the defense couldn't go full speed in practice), the lack of player development on offense, and a head coach that had checked out. Keep in mind the year we wanted him back we had just gone 12-1, but Tebow was covering the cracks more than we knew. Most fans thought even if he steps back for a year or two worst case we win 9 or so. Then he went out and signed a number one class ( defensive heavy which wasn't the underlying issue as we would later learn) and all thought things were well. 2010 showed quickly we owed Tebow in particular more thane realized. And with Meyer checked out things imploded. In retrospect you are right, we would have been better off had he left in 2010.
