Those others have established cross-division rivals. USC is one of the new kids on the block so that's why we were paired with them. Same with Ark/Mizzou, although their proximity makes a bit more sense. USC has built a very good program and hopefully our game with them becomes a consistent matchup of top 10 or 15 teams. We're lucky we didn't end up with Mizzou.

And USC is very different than Vandy. Not sure how you can think a matchup against the East division favorite is anything like Vandy. USC has been good for awhile now and Spurrier is building a strong program there.

I think it will be fun, as long as the ole ball coach is there it will be a fun game with a tough opponent

I'd been really hoping for Florida. Two flagship schools from two big states....that's something to market and get excited about. South Carolina's got a heck of a team and will give us all we can handle. I was just hoping for a bigger name annual rival.

Florida-LSU is a pretty big game. I don't think the conference, or the schools for that matter, wanted to break that up. Then you end up with a possible domino effect. It won't be such a big deal anyway if (when) we go to a 9 game conference schedule.

Probably because USC has the best equestrian in the east, and A&M has solid equestrian in the west. USC also has the most west feeling baseball team in the east. In basketball they may be closer in history than the power basketball teams in the east.

Basketball "permanent rivals" are different than football. LSU is our permanent basketball rival, which just means we always play home and home every year against them. S Carolina is Georgia's rival in basketball. Not sure about baseball.

Who would you rather it be? Missouri?

Would rather it been Kentucky. Someone we could beat often. Oh well, we will just have to beat South Carolina. Will be nice listening to Lou Holtz slobber over picking USC over us every year until he keels over.

I'm pumped to play USC every year. Trip to myrtle beach or charleston every other year will be a nice bonus.

If we had to trade with Arky so they could have Mizzou and we could have LSU on T-day I am A-OK with it. Much rather have them than Vandy or Mizzou.

Other than Missouri (which would make sense because of our ties in the Big XII), SC is logical from a standpoint that they are the most recent member (1992) admitted to the SEC in the east.

A lot of those of other now cross-divisional rivalries (see UGA/Auburn, Tennessee/Alabama, Florida/LSU) go back decades.

It is either MU or USC. None of the others were options.

MU playing the hogs makes sense. Indifferent for us but me personally I like being paired with USC better.

Who knows if this helped us get the LSU game at the end of the year (I think LSU and A&M wanted it no matter what and this just helped the hogs save face), but our game will be big.

USC is fine with me. That will be a good matchup in the years to come.

Vandy would have been ideal. Our schedule is tough enough without USC. And they're the best school academically in the other division, so the pairing makes sense.

Would like to see permanent rivals end but if we have one, SCAR is a high quality game.

Florida or Georgia would have been awesome!

My preference was Florida, as I've been told by several coon-asses that I work with that they'd love to not have to play Florida every year.

But South Carolina is a great choice - great coach in Spurrier and a fantastic state to visit every other year.

If Mizzou had been paired with the Ags I'd have puked.
