Searched the forum and didn't see anything about his recent de-commitment, but flame away if this has been discussed already. Anybody know the backstory, and if we've got a shot at getting a re-commitment?
I haven't heard a reason.
Probably something to do with trouble stalking his cousin with her kids!

I think someone on premium mentioned it might have to do with the limited roster sizes after this season and the emphasis on proven transfers over unproven freshmen.

How early can kids commit? Sophomore year seems early to get an offer or commit.

There have been a lot of moving parts with NCAA rules on college baseball in the last few years.
Prior to Spring 2023, kids could commit as early as 7th grade. The NCAA changed that and put in some rules stating coaches could not have recruiting contact with players until August 1 of a rising Junior year in HS.
You have some legacy players that committed before the rule change and those commitments were grandfathered in… probably the case here.
The other piece that has changed in the last month is that full baseball scholarships were bumped up to 32 (from 11.7) full scholarships, but roster spots were dropped to 34 (6 less than previously). This drop in roster slots combined with the transfer portal has created a higher bar for high schoolers to jump to D1 baseball. I suspect we will see more decommits over the next several months in college baseball in general.

So is this a decommitment or the A&M staff encouraging him to look elsewhere? As long as A&M was honoring his commitment, there would be no reason for him to decommit even given the climate change in college baseball.
appears to be telling him to look elsewhere. Roster spots being cut from 40 to 34 means we don't have as much room for high school projects.
