How would the board feel about a Vaughn/ Earley duo?

Rob Vaughn is Bama's coach, formerly With Maryland. One of the young rising stars. With Earley at his side.

I'm hearing this is a real possibility. I personally like it, not the splash hire most are looking for, but could be a legacy coach that is here for 20+ years that builds a perennial powerhouse

That might be my preferred outcome from all possibilities, if we aren't going to get a guy like O'Connor. You get a young head coach with SEC experience, A&M and Texas ties, and you get a hitting instructor who can keep your roster in tact.

Earley is going to be a head coach someday, so I'm open to taking a flyer on him, but, ideally, we'd get a head coach who would have Early as his top assistant.

Not that this means anything, but I imagine Vaughn and new OC Klein crossed paths at Kansas St while attending

I want a strategy not just a hire. I want our leadership to own why we can't be organized and effective. And this isn't something you can solve with one hire. I'm weary of knowing exactly what gives coaches the brush off that either causes them to underperform or leave and, no, this isn't just money.

And if you're saying it's good Schloss didn't get what he wanted in in the balllark you could be just rationalizing what is visible hamhandedness.

No reason to shut down an awesome coach but whatever.

When Kendall floated the five initial names out at the very beginning I said Heefner and Vaughn were my top two choices.

Everyone else wanted O'Connor.

Funny that Vaughn is now picking up steam.

I'd be ecstatic…

Then go throw money at Corey Muscara - Wake pitching coach. He was pitching coach under Vaughn at Maryland.

Also see if Cliff wants to come home. He's not just a household name. CUSA assistant coach of the year.

I'd absolutely be down with that staff if we could pull it off.

Why keep bringing up Heefner? -He already took himself out of consideration early yesterday. Would have been a great hire but not going to happen.

Dream staff! 112% behind this staff right here. They might not be an upgrade on paper just because of experience but damn these guys would absolutely crush it here.

How is Vaughn's California recruiting? I imagine with Earley on staff we could still pull a lot of the California talent.

CA is too hard to ignore, for baseball and football talent equally

I like Vaughn a lot. I do think the logic behind Vaughn-Earley is a little difficult to see. I realize they are familiar with each other from prior stops, but they overlap a lot in some key areas. Both are tactically offensive and closer in age.

I would think from Earley's perspective it wouldn't be the ideal career development path. I would think from Earley's standpoint, Skip Johnson would be a better pairing. Unless, that is, he just really wants to be at A&M and is satisfied with a slightly less direct path to future HC. If so, that would be a huge win for us.

Earley might be ok with an Associate HC title and a big raise is the only reason I see him working for another HC.

Just reading the tea leaves, I think Earley wants to stay if given any reasonable path to do so. Maybe Vaughn would make him AHC/recruiting coordinator. That would be a step up, and give him a chance to show he's ready for the next step. But, like you say, having an older pitching guy like Skip as head coach might be a better fit for Earley.

I have been harping on this all week. California produces more big time baseball talent than TX & FL combined. You have to add TX/FL/GA (#'s 2.3 & 4 states) to surpass CA. And now that those players (from mostly conservative households) bail on the west coast programs you HAVE to get your share of them or you will struggle to win in Omaha.

1/2 the Ags lineup this year were SoCal kids. LSU & Tenn had Cali difference makers the past 2 years. Whomever this staff is ultimately comprised of needs a strong Cali recruiter.

Early isn't coming back to be someone's robin. Some people are just oblivious to reality. That's if he's coming at all.

I don't give a damn in what capacity. Just bring Michael Earley back. He is the linch pin to keeping the momentum going and the fact that he was willing to come back and interview tells you how much he wants to be here. He is the Linda Kasabian to that ghoulish Manson Family that took off on us Tuesday
