If Earley is the guy why not let him assemble a young, hungry staff and then bring in Pierce in an advisory type role to help guide Earley through his first time as a head coach? I feel like Pierce would be motivated to help Earley be successful.

Even though in theory it would be good, you don't want anything that has been infected with that tu Austin cancer. Damaged goods. Keep all tu exes far away from the program.

While I understand the intent of your suggestion…….I can't help but wonder why people think anyone taking a high profile position like ours would agree to something like this.

"Hi, we want you to be our next head coach……but not really because we are gonna bring this other coach that has been at a high profile job to "guide" you and "teach" you."

No one would agree to having that forced on them

Emory Bellard was the real deal, from another era! Next to Jackie, the best coach to walk the sidelines of Kyle Field! Left alone, he very likely would have won and/or played for multiple MNCs! But that's for another day/thread...

Hell I'd make him pitching coach. He's a good coach. And I think the people in Austin might realize that soon.

You realize the irony that you only don't want a highly qualified pitching coach BECAUSE he coached at Texas...? So who is the one with the obsession?

If a 20 year, top 10 pitching first coach was the HC at UNC and took them to 3 CWS in 5 years and we hired him away just to be our pitching coach would you not be ecstatic??

When are people going to realize that the obsession with texas is not the folks that would consider coaches, but rather those that refuse to consider coaches just because of where they used to work?

see, if true, THAT is a viable reason. But where you used to Coach is not. Let's have the reason be tangible, not emotional.

It's not. He's not liked by anybody. AD, players, support folks, donors.

Schloss on 'roids. Got nothing to do with where he coached.

We need a coach who doesn't need someone to guide and help him because he has zero experience as a head coach. Good lord.

I'd rather take a chance on an "unproven" coach I had supreme confidence in and trusted based upon his prior performance than settle for a coach with experience that failed to inspire me with that same experience. I think that might be where our AD could end up, given the availability of experienced HCes.

Always hilarious when a coaching change happens.

Nothing but **** talking about how awful Pierce was from Feb to June.

Now people want to hire him?

Reality: a football coach who is a great defensive coordinator, but turns out to be a crappy head coach, can still be a great defensive coordinator.

I think it would be helpful to have a veteran pitching coach on the staff if we choose to go with a first time, offense focused head coach. That's all I'm saying.

Better would be to rehire a Director of baseball ops that is a position that Trev terminated under Schloss.

It is is Earley we MUST give him more administrative and operations support so he can focus on doing what he does.
..recruit, coach and develop players.

That wasn't who got layed off.

Jason Hutchins is the director of baseball operations. He's been here for over 25 years.

Chris Park was the deputy director of athletics for external relations and business development. He was here 2 years.

Why are people acting like he was some irreplaceable cog?

Director of Baseball Operations is not a position that was eliminated.

Jason Hutchins is, in fact, one of the last people still in the building running things at the moment.

What was eliminated was the Associate AD position, which is just an AD surrogate that oversees a sport. That's not key to operations.

I prefer trying to get Pennington to come home over a failed tu coach. If Earley is the guy, let him pick his coaching staff. If Vaughn at Bama is the new coach and Earley is returning as AHC/Hitting Coach, then you just need a pitching coach and Recruiting coordinator. There are better pitching coach options out there than a tu reject.
