I didn't really see any "well, poor A&M, their big brother got the best of them again..." type reporting like we would have seen a decade ago. Playing for a national championship over-rode a lot of that for sure, but I think it's a good reflection of the newfound respect the country has for Texas A&M's sports programs.

Most of the narrative I saw, was basically, "that's a crap way for Texas and their coach to do it, but Texas A&M will be fine."

Speaking of public perception, I am curious to see if "the word is out" in the recruiting pool in terms of how Schlossnagle treats his players. I will be interested to see how well he is able to recruit moving forward.

this right here. ive never seen any profession look out for their own as much as journos do.

I generally don't subscribe to the Burnt Orange Media Conspiracy, but it does seem tu has been viewed as the a-holes in this scenario - and not just by the media. My own dad is a lifelong tu t-shirt fan (nobody in my family before me went to college) and I know he's changed his tune. After I went to A&M he would actively root for both A&M and tu, and would remain neutral (at least outwardly) when we played each other. When I talked to him this week, he was pissed at how CDC handled this whole deal and said "I hope you guys kick their a$$es next year in every sport."

Edit to add: I mentioned this to my dad with the caveat that we knew about some of schLoss's character flaws when we hired him - but that among other things schLoss was a swinger (and not the baseball kind). My dad immediately said "I bet Del Conte was in his group." I certainly didn't have discussing logistics of swingers on my bingo card of topics to discuss with my dad.

Coaches leave schools all the time under shady circumstances. This one, with that kind of righteous indignation, and a day after the CWS final… (and it not being football season and the college calendar over) gave this a bit more steam than normal.

With tu's money, he will be able to pull plenty of guys just looking for the big payday. How cohesive a team he will be able to assemble with those types of players remains to be seen.

That helps some. But coaches without this black eye also coach at schools that can provide good NIL

This is going to hurt Schloss some. If it was not a concern for them, they would not be doing this damage control crap in the media all week.

Similar story. I was talking to a t-shirt sip fan that said he "usually" roots for tu since they are the hometown team. He then said, "but that coach and the AD did y'all dirty, and may have cost your players a championship. That's bush league."

If that is the perception of t-shirt sip fans in Austin, this isn't a good look for Schlooser and CDC. If Earley can pull in a really good staff and win a few portal battles this week, I'd say it could really work out for the best in the long term.

I think Zane asking that question single-handedly screwed up the planned timeline that Schloss and the sips had planned for this. Instead of happening over the course of several days with plausible deniability it got contracted down to just 24 hours, it got the media all arrayed against him (because media will always circle the wagons for their own), and it made it clear just how slimy and NOT just any other coach poach this was. We got CDC claiming he hid in a cemetery for hours and the POS claiming he made this decision in about 1/4 of a day to try and cover up for that. Major missstep all just because the guy got flustered and was totally unprepared for somebody to call him out on a decision he'd already made.

Excellent observation... Hadn't thought of that, but it's not crazy to think the public uproar was so bad against schloshy that it may actually end up hurting him on the recruiting trail. Let's hope so. He and tu both deserve it.

I really don't think that what a jerk or what a traitor or what a liar a coach is makes any difference. Big-time college sports is professional sports.

By the way, as we all know, A&M is the older school and for a good deal now they are by far the largest in the state. tu is younger little sister or whatever the pronouns are now.

Plus the national discussion on the current state of college athletics etc. and the role of dirty money in it all.

We've never been licked but Schloss is going to get teabaged regularly on 6th Street. May he raise to the occasion.
