Have hired the "player favorite" assistant coach and had great success? I can think of Ed O at LSU, and he had previous head coaching experience, but outside of that, I'm not sure this has worked out too well for other programs. I'm not trying to throw water on anything here. Early in my opinion was a great choice and I'm excited after reading all the current and former player comments. More curious than anything.

I'm sure a lot have. Was Gary Patterson successful at TCU? I'd say yes.

The way this has all gone down is pretty unprecedented. So there's not really anything in the past that can relate to it.

That being said, it appears we have handled everything as best as possible. Trev took his time on this and interviewed several solid coaches prior to making a decision.

There's always a 1st for something. I like the narrative that the success was because of the assistants and it's highlighted when the assistant is given a shot. I'll be very attentive to how this shakes out... the initial reaction seems promising
