Just curious why these share a forum instead of having their own?

They need to be separate. Even if there are just 20 posters in that forum, they shouldn't have to sift through baseball threads all day.
It did? I remember a lot of traffic about those teams in the early '00s but I remember them as part of the Baseball Board.Agsncws said:
Softball has it's own forum after the ladies made a run at the NC (2000s?), but the forum simply did not have enough activity to warrant it's own real estate. With the new coach in place, I hope she develops the program enough that it is finally warranted.
They more or less handle it this year by having a season thread like the Other Baseball Board has season threads for the 'Stros, Rangers. Cubs, Orioles, Braves, etc.Muy said:

Because the softball board would basically be dead other than the ongoing game thread.

Leaving them together gives softball more visibility. I usually follow the softball thread but wouldn't go over it to a softball forum.

Softball is definitely an inferior game.

It isn't about having too many forums presenting any additional maintenance/expense/etc. They are using the baseball board to promote softball. I don't ever remember softball having it's own board. It's entirely possible that it did, and I've forgotten, but it isn't happening again.
What does this mean? We're not talking about real estate here - there's unlimited space.themissinglink said:
If you move it to its own board, you get the diehard fans, but lose the casual fans. As a casual fan of the softball team I certainly prefer it this way but understand the argument to change it. Unfortunately, there probably isn't enough traffic to have a softball only board so it would be relegated to the Other sports board with Track, tennis, volleyball, etc.
Ever heard of internet traffic?RARay said:What does this mean? We're not talking about real estate here - there's unlimited space.themissinglink said:

During the season, the softball thread was a fixture on the first page. It's just that we've seen some unprecedented attention on our baseball program lately, and the number of threads has exploded. Give it a month or so and things will calm down.Muy said:powerbelly said:Muy said:

I am just thinking more about the softball posters. If they don't want to use just one thread, the others will quickly fall off the baseball page.
Not that it is worse or inferior but despite its many similarities it is a different game just like rugby and football.Muy said:powerbelly said:

I wouldn't say "inferior game" as I love the game when I start watching it in the post season. Definitely inferior as far as fan support for sure.

I was about to say sticky this since it's an annual discussionGhost of Bisbee said:

I'm pretty sure this past season the NCAA remove the "crow hop" rule that prevented pitchers from having both feet off the ground simultaneously.ShouldastayedataTm said:
Well for one that second Gif is an illegal pitch, they are not allowed to leap forward like that with both feet leaving the ground together. But otherwise typical softball pitches are not nearly as hard as baseball pitches. Even top male fastpitch pitchers are not hitting 90 to 100 mph on a pitch period, much less regularly. Second the mound is considerably closer to the hitter in softball versus baseball. So the hitter has less time to find and react to the ball even though it is moving slower and is larger.
You use your hips to snap he ball. The motion is a lot less violent than baseball and the shorter travel from softball circle to home plate makes 66mph look like 100mph.ObviousLazyRiverIsObvious said:
I'm intrigued by softball and will watch it. One big thing is ... how in the world do those pitchers throw so hard with that motion? I've tried to replicate it and it feels so unnatural. Hats off to them for that talent!
