Alberts said this after being asked by the media what input the players had on Michael Earley and why they thought he would be a good choice for the head coach position.

Here is the best portion of his answer.

"…So there was a lot of emotion. Ordinarily what I like to do is walk around and just let them (answer) one by one: if there were a couple of attributes that were important to you in what we look for in the next leader, what are they? I want to know.

And, you know, while it wasn't quite that formal because of the emotion. The consistent theme was: they just want somebody who loves them. They want somebody who pours into them. They want somebody that cares about them more than just as a baseball player. They have been great baseball players their whole lives. So it's really more of the servant leadership piece. And um, that's what they wanted.

And by the way, there's this guy named Michael, and it's who he is to us. He pours into us. We know he loves us and cares about us. And the fact that he's developed that relationship with them, then he can coach them hard. It doesn't matter what sport it is. Nowadays, you can't coach student-athletes hard if you don't have a relationship with them. So you start with the relationship."

This program has such a good culture right now. The players are in GREAT hands.

Sounds like players who have been coached by a narcissist for two years.

Some might not like me saying that one but it's reality.

I was married to one. And at a very hard time in my life, I needed support from a very close person to me in my family. I asked them, why did this happen? She told me maybe this happened so your children would have one parent that could show them love.

Guys are gonna be fine. If anything this makes them more strong and, importantly, more hungry. I'm so glad admin listened to them and gave them what they both wanted and needed.

Can't have tough love without the love part. You leave out that key ingredient and you are just being abusive. No doubt slosh was mentally abusive in many of his coaching relationships . That's what you get with a transactional coach that's just in it for himself.
