Another Washington player to the portal. Do we want?

Good players, but I'm not sure there's a spot for either of them to play, depending on who returns to A&M/makes it to campus

It seems like there is a lot in flux with our middle infield between the draft (Ali, 2 HS SS) and transfer portal(Kent). I would definitely try to take 1 through the portal. Tough to see how these 2 would adjust to the SEC. There are certainly bigger prizes out there. Arquette was considered a top ~100-150 player in the 2025 draft this pre-season, so I wouldn't mind a flyer on him.

Arquette would likely be our starting 2b if Ali comes back

You take Arquette immediately unless you have a good idea that Kent and Camarillo both come back.

You can't not take him if he's willing to commit right now, and hope that Ali puts off pro ball for a year and Kent decides to withdraw from the portal.

Also I would absolutely not discredit him just because he played in the PAC 12.

Ali himself came from Cal St Northridge and improved his stats this year. Earley and Longley are two of the best hitting coaches in the nation. The development will be there.

This site has them as the #12 and #13 players left in the portal

Sorrell is #10 for reference

Is there any indication if they are a pair? I have loved Kent, and obviously Kent would deserve a conversation from Earley, but if these two are ready to pull on the maroon, you don't tell them no.

Let's add Washington RHP Grant Cunningham to the mix

All 3 are good players and would be great gets. You take the pitcher Cunningham for sure. 2.86 era, .222 baa this year. Showed real improvement/development from freshman year to soph year.

The other two are high quality also but I guess it depends on the shake out with Kent and Ali. Clayton had a better season at the plate in 2023 when he hit .325 with 11 HR. He was fantastic defensively at SS this year (2024) with a .980 fld% (only 4 errors).

Aiva is a beast. 6'4, 220 middle infielder. He was a soph this year (2nd base) and hit .325 with 12 bombs and a .974 fld% (6 errors).

If we lose Kent and Ali (two great players for us), these two would fill the void nicely. Would love to get Aiva regardless just to make our lineup even bigger. Haha.

A write up on Cunningham and Arquette from future stars series
Quote:

Arquette has yet to have a down game on front of me. It's solidly above-average raw power gap-to-gap and he taps into it consistently. His contact is regularly solid.

He suffered from some tough BABIP luck in this series, though, But it's a good sign he's letting the power show organically and not getting pull-happy or loopy with the swing.

Given where he's at in his development, he could hit draft season next spring with plus power, with more of his doubles and deep fly balls leaving the yard with added physical maturity.

Arquette has the bat speed to catch up to fastballs and has done a good job adjusting to breaking stuff and generating damage. It's a clean approach, and he hasn't chased much beyond his zone.

Defensively, he's bendy and rangy, particularly considering he's 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds and he's handled second base this season without much concern, but he may grow into third base, instead.

Arquette, a true sophomore this season, will not be draft-eligible until next year but is a necessary follow as a potential Top 100 talent.
Quote:

I've seen the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Cunningham four times now, and he's the best-kept secret in the Pacific Northwest.

The true sophomore typically sits 88-92, but has reached back for 95, and the fastball plays up due to front-side deception, tothe point hitters have not hit it when it's elevated. He has been somewhat fastball-reliant, but with consistent strikes and average command.

Cunningham, who has manned a bulk-innings relief role for the Huskies this season, also mixes in a low-70s curveball and an upper-70s slider with sweep.

Ideally, Cunningham takes the ball on Fridays or Saturdays next season and we see the full arsenal on display, because there's a lot to like here and he's just getting started.

I think this is the answer.

Kent was a star in the last 3 weeks. Why wasn't he on the field before? Play? Attitude? Jerk coach? Say what you want about POS but he seemed to put players on the field. I don't want to be a prisoner of the moment from the grand slam on... If that's what Kent IS then he's a star. If it was a hot 3 weeks... Well... And can he really lock down the SS position full time? There's a quality glove and multiple positions in him for sure. But his range certainly isn't what Ali's is (which is an unfair comparison to most people).

Like I said earlier, if there's interest in these two following JK then Earley will need to have a business discussion with Kent very soon. ... I also wish I knew the team relationships better. Would Kent going impact Sorrell? Sorrell is such a fringe true 5 tool player that I'd really like to see him back (for 2 years).

No big deal. Especially with increased board activity the last week. It's just easier to find new or additional info with less repeat with fewer places to look. But we will survive.
