How good are these assistants? Every great head-coach is good at getting great assistant coaches, it makes things run much better. Hopefully they are as good as we hope. I know Jason Kelly was a huge piece.

JK was an important hire. His background and experience will help Earley out with his blind spots as Trev put it.

Caleb was the hitting coach last year for the sips. Their offense was the strongest aspect of their team. I think this is a good thing so that Earley while helping in this area can devote the majority of his time to head coaching decisions.

The only area unknown is recruiting but it seems that's going to be OK. These guys can show they can develop players, it will go well. I liked what Earley said in his PC about the portal being part of the game now. He's shown me he can coach and build relationships with his players. He has shown that he truly cares for them. And he's also shown he understands where the game is now as far as recruiting both HS kids and the portal.

I was surprised to see Fox elevated. I was expecting him to stay in current role and bring in another guy from outside, but in Earley we trust!

How do you measure a great coach?!

One measure is a coaches ability to get the most out of players.

Another measure may be how well they do what they are asked to do.

Earley has never been a head coach, but he just pulled off an amazing feat. He kept the 2nd best NCAA baseball team almost intact. He pulled in the 1, 2, 3, and 10 ranked portal players.

His players say repeatedly that he was the reason we were in the MCWS. Is that just player speak?! Well, they all CHOSE to request him as coach and they ultimately chose to stay with him to support his 1st year.

If our former Pitching coach was more about analytics than mechanics, anything we get there is upside to a team that... finished 2024 as the #2 team in college baseball.

I think you are asking the wrong question.

The right question is... can this staff get these players to win the MCWS in 2025? I think they can.

My only concern coaching-wise is Kelley, and that's only because he hasn't had a year with a dominant group of pitchers, however looking at his history as a pitching coach his teams always appear to improve and he has inherited some real messes that he has cleaned up. So the question now is, can he handle and keep our talent towards the top of the country. We need to be top 10 or 20 to make a deep run like we did this year. Even with our lineup, a liable pitching staff would likely bounce us before we return to the finals.
