Former sip commit. New to pitching and nearly 1 walk per IP, but can't teach >100+ mph

I saw LeBlanc this past spring in NJCAA Region 5 conference play. He was 93-95. The velo numbers quoted above are not verified by anyone I know of. He also has bouts of wildness. He has a quick arm and a high ceiling. But he is very raw and will require development. At this point he isn't SEC ready IMO. He is a project but a great guy to take a risk on.

And 10 HBP in 20 innings at Cisco. Not gonna be much crowding the plate against a wild 100+ that's for sure

I hate walks - throw strikes at 96

My son played against him this year. Topped 94 on their gun but the the gun on the scoreboard was reading 8 mph hot. Not a single verified gun had him over 95. He topped 89 in HS

It blows my mind that guys will exaggerate their velo in Twitter posts. It's a very questionable strategy. When the truth comes out their credibility goes out the window. Hard to earn a coach's trust when the relationship begins with a lie.

We are at the under the lights camp right now and this guy is out on the field with the coaching staff and some other recruits. He is a big human! Looks like a defensive end out there. Great pick up!

Maybe I missed something, but the player isn't the one who posted the 102 velo stat on twitter

I'm only seeing the 102 on his personal Twitter. ETA: Cisco did retweet him reporting 102 and it seems fairly well accepted that he hits triple digits.

Here's his progression from 2022-2024:

If the 102 was legit he would be on draft boards and scouts I have talked to don't have him on their boards. But you can believe whatever you want.

Cortez threw 100 coming out of HS. Why wasn't he on draft boards then?

Cortez was definitely on draft boards but wasn't signable where he would have been drafted.

Watching the twitter video he posted, pretty clear he throws hard enough and with enough spin to garner interest, but that doesn't look 100+ to me. That doesn't necessarily mean he isn't worth taking a lottery ticket.

Meh. Hopefully we are going to add more pitchers. Maybe this guy continues to develop and has some upside. The legit velocity (not buying a legit 102 right now) could still be increasing. Coaches see something. Definitely raw.

Stats at Cisco this year (only 2.2 IP, 5 er, 7 walks. 2 k as a fish):

2024 - 21.2 IP, 18 H, 17 R, 13 ER, 22 W, 35 K, 5.40 ERA, 1.85 WHIP

K/9 was good so he has something to work with.

Hopefully he develops but also hoping we portal some more quality pitchers (like the Washington guy), especially if we lose Prager and Ash. There are some fish, if we get past the draft, that could possibly help, also.

With that rate of HBP and whatever velocity >90 he could be a great asset in situations where we have a comfortable lead against a team like tu.

Here's one claiming 104 mph (in the title). Lol. Might as well go with that. +8 hot is still 96 though.

You take a chance and if he's around in after the fall then he's a midweek guy low stress game situations. You have build him up, pitch from the stretch always.

There's been a story going around forever that Nolan Ryan wanted to attend A&M but Tom Chandler told him he should go to a JUCO and gain some weight. Does anyone know if that really happened? This kid kind of reminds me of him when he was young.

Dam arm talent is arm talent. I'm an old guy when I played juco ball. In the early/spring fall our coach scheduled us to play against a high school team. It was LaVega high school they had a wild lefty who threw dam near a hundred.
Well he got it figured out later on and pitched the bigs for about 20 years. You always take a chance and see what the kid has inside of him to work hard and get better.
To gripe and put him down because he's trying to get better is just dumb. Fall ball will help this kid immensely and will also see what the kid has talent wise and joe he fits in with the team. It may work it may not but that kind of arm talent deserves a look.
The lefty was Arthur Rhodes!

Yes, it happened. Nolan enrolled at Alvin CC but never attended a class before getting drafted.
