This may have been discussed and maybe I didn't see it but: In the era of NIL the discussion has begun about maybe some of the high end talent from high school might opt for college and enjoy better conditions. How will this affect MLB farm leagues? Will they have problems filling rosters and eventually dwindle down in numbers or will they fill those spots with possibly lesser talent from the college and high school ranks or will it just be a problem initially but reset the timeline once it shifts?

All of Latin America wants to play MLB. Also, they've recently made pretty drastic cuts to the farm system setup. There isn't much left to cut. They won't have problems filling spots.

If Latin America floods that market, do you think that will affect any significant amount of high schoolers that skipped the initial draft for college and then are on the outside looking in?

I know this is true in college basketball. With small teams, small rosters, lots of high school talent, and limited NBA slots; kids will ride the NIL pony as long as they can.

Any of the farm leagues, g-league salaries would be a step down in salary and endorsements. Kids get more airtime at a D1 school then playing in the minors or g-league and airtime drives sponsorships.

My only wish would be that the money they earned through NIL be placed in a trust of some sort until they reach 25 or graduate.

The era of constraining NIL trade for student athletes is officially ended…and at a very steep price…

I think NIL is going to have a larger impact on the round 5+ guys than 1st round guys. It's hard to compete with a $2m+ bonus. I suspect incoming freshmen are not getting huge NIL deals but enough to improve the economics to where they aren't paying to go to school (and maybe a bit of pocket change at most). The guys you hear rumored of getting >$250k NIL deals are proven upper level college players.

College has always been a much lower draft risk than high school and with better overall talent making it to the college level, MLB will refocus more scouting to the college level.

I also think this will change the talent acquisition model for SEC/ACC schools. No reason to take a risk on high school talent unless you think you can develop them into 1-2 round talent. Go get the Jace, Gavin, Sorrell and Cortez's of the world in HS and then hit the transfer portal hard. Pitching is a little different in that you probably need a bit more focus in HS, but still have available options in the portal.
