I just realized it has been 20 years since a rain delay and Coachman beat #1 Rice in the Regionals.

Apparently he is still doing good things.

God Bless Herman Coachman!

I remember when TSU came to Olsen a year or two later, this young man got a standing ovation from the Olsen faithful.

I can remember Rice bringing in Philip Umber (sp?) and this pretentious chant they were doing with his name. Then Herman went yard, and we chanted his name instead.

Philip Humber. Great pitcher. He started against tsu. Shut them out for 6 innings. Gave up a run in the 7th (Coachman scored it) and then Coachman's 3 run bomb in the 8th. Humber took the L.

Guess who took the L against A&M and gave up the Grand Slam to Ruggs in the winner take all final game? He had come on in relief and gave up the bomb that blew out Dave South's lungs.. on Ruggs dagger in the...8th inning.....

Guessed it yet???? Yes, Philip Humber. Humber took both Rice losses in that regional to finish his season with a 13-4 record. Elite pitcher but should've avoided the 8th inning in that regional.

2004 when he spiked Rice was Coachman's freshman season. He finished the year with 9 HR.

He would only hit 6 more HR for his career (3 more seasons at TSU and then a very short stint in Indy ball).

But we'll forever be thankful Herman "three run jack" Coachman.

What a great blast from the past. And he looks like he was his ducks in a row.
