Video shows elite young talent in a 16u showcase game.

J-train Jr was the best player on the field.

He went 3 for 4 with a single, warning track fly out, 3 run bomb to tie game, and a double.

Played catcher.

Hits were in bottom of the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th innings.

Nice. He's a bad ass. Hopefully he makes it to campus.

There is another 2026 Aggie commit in that video, Catcher Hopkins, who hit the solo bomb in the bottom of the 4th to give the Tigers their first run. Yes his name is Catcher. Yes he plays catcher (and middle infield, utility, and a switch hitter). Haha.

USA Prime National/ Detroit Tigers Scout team? How does that work?

Man the prospect circuit has changed a ton in the, oh, 35 years or so since I was around it.

Would be more fun if he was a pitcher

Junior is definitely not built like JTrain's tank style body type.

Yeah, I gotta admit that when I first clicked play on the video I was looking for someone built like a tank trucking fools. Maybe some hapless sip commit.

Can you imagine JTrain barreling towards home plate?

He just turned 16 or is about to and going into his junior year.

Majority he'll play his first season in college or pros at 18.

Number 7 ranked prep player….

We're going to need the NIL guys to make sure he gets to campus.

I'd be shocked if he didn't end up going somewhere near where Sanford went.

Doubt we see him. The math now is pretty convincing for a 5th round talent to go to college. Adding full ride scholarships to the mix probably makes it a case for 4th round since you no longer have to pay off $60k in student loans with your signing bonus. We aren't likely to see many above the 4th go to college at any point without a significant emotional pull…like playing at dad's Alma Mater. Still I doubt we see him on campus unfortunately.

USA Prime is a big, national organization with franchises across the country that have teams at all age levels. I believe USA Prime is based in DFW. Those younger, lower-level teams finance the "National" teams. I think that, ideally, those youth teams are meant to be feeder teams for the National teams where they supposedly identify and develop talent from a young age to play on those "National" teams. In reality, the "National" teams just recruit studs from around the country.

It doesn't appear that this specific team J-Train, Jr. is on has played any PG events but this is the USA Prime 15U National team page/roster on Perfect Game. You can see where their kids are from.

As for the "Detroit Tigers Scout" team- to be a true scout team a scout or some personnel from that MLB franchise is "coaching" that team. From what I understand it's not much real coaching but more like filling out lineup cards at showcases because kids don't practice together. They just show up and play at the tournaments.

USA Prime - Detroit Tigers partnership

Similarly, Texas Twelve Baseball has an affiliation with the Boston Red Sox so their top HS teams are "Red Sox Scout" teams.

RIP catcher

I can imagine making a matador proud. My new nickname would be Ole'. So no rip for me. I'd be like "good run, sir, you beat the throw easy, congrats". everybody else "but the ball was in your glove while he was still halfway down the third base line!!" and I'd be like "No, no, fake news, he beat the throw easy, don't know what you are talking about. Plus the sun was in my eyes. And there was a murder hornet."
