Most important aspect of the position is to be able to pick balls and my recollection is that Binderup really struggled defensively last year. If he grabs everything, I can live with the concerns about his bat vs good pitchijg.

Bergevin's proven pop in his bat should be an asset in this lineup. It all comes back to the defense to me. What are the reports coming out of practice on these two defensively?

Your questions highlight key themes with new managers and their staffs:

1. How do they approach development and competition for positions?
2. How do they think about balance of defense and offense?
3, How do they leverage veterans to activate the culture to embrace all players?
4. What do they emphasize in the "clubhouse?"

I don't think we have much to go on either in personal knowledge or these general themes to answer your questions. I think looking for answers in gameplay is the best way to find out the answers.

If they struggle - is Kash not an option at 1B?

I'm calling it now: Binderup is going to be the dude and have a monster breakout season

Keep in mind, Bergevin did not face premier pitching at his last school. Bunderup has been raking against out pitching staff all fall, and from what I've heard, he's improved a lot at first. Pitcher to first is a hard transition to make.

My guess is Berg and Bindy will share starts at 1st until we start conference play. Once conference play begins, I think the coach will have enough information to name the full time starter.

I think the whole will be judged, whoever makes the least amount of mistakes will win out. Mistakes is what will cause losses.

I think Kash struggled in the field at times at Tech (based on what a tech fan told me).

I agree that defense would seem to be a huge factor at 1st, because our middle infield is unproven, and our lineup is stacked with bats....same goes for catcher.

He played 52 of 56 games at 1b last season and had 6 Es, fielding % was .984. Not sure if some of those 6 Es were from his 4 games in OF.

Defense needs to be the tie breaker. Can't give away outs.

Catcher is going to be a drop off and defense needs to be the focus. We're replacing the 1st team SEC catcher and can't afford pass balls.

Based on everything that has been reported about Kiel, it sounds like it is going to be really hard to keep him off the field, especially as he gets more and more experience with college pitching.

My guess is he will be like Sorrell last year, starting about 1-2 games a week for the first month or so of the season, then slotting into a full time starting role by SEC play.

Easiest way to get Kiel on the field is to move Kash back to 1B.

We will see how Binderup and Bergervin do in the first few weeks, but if neither are impressing much it wouldn't shock me for Kiel to become a full time starter in time for conference play.

Binderup has had probably the best bat through the fall games and intrasquad. Pretty sure he had a dinger in every game.

I don't anticipate or expect that to be the issue. Are any of them, Will Clark? I doubt it. But as long as their an average fielding 1st baseman and can generate runs we'll be OK. I think both are capable of that

No one expects Teddy baseball out there. I just want them to consistently pick balls out of the dirt.

If I learned one thing from Moneyball, it's that defense at first base doesn't matter. Play the guy with the highest on base percentage.

Sorry for the confusion. It appears that those rankings are actually how D1 ranked our Aggies in their overall rankings for the 2025 season. My bad...

I'm no D1 Baseball apologist, but...

#1 OF hit .381/25HR/67RBI as a FRESHMAN in 10 fewer games than Jace. It should be more like 1a/1b/1c. It's not something to get confused by or be upset about...

And just think that before coming to A&M Teddy 2-bags never played more than 11 games a season at 1b. In 2023 - 53 games at 2b then in 2024 - 54 games at 1b.

Hopefully, one of our 3 options can be an everyday 1b. I think it will happen.

Jace is the first outfielder listed in the image. What do you mean? Nationally he's the #3 outfielder.

He also was one of the best hitters last fall. Then spring rolled around. I would be thrilled to see Bindy figure out college pitching this spring. Kid has the physical potential to be a 20+ HR guy. Just need him to start squaring up some baseballs in the spring.

If we could find a second baseman to bring Teddy-like range to first base, I would be delighted. I'm just hoping for average level fielding at the position after we got spoiled by Teddy last year.

I think everyone is in this boat. I'm probably one of the most critical of him on here and I agree.

The kid can rake, there's no doubt about it. To build a solid defense, you need to have reliable C, SS, 1st B, and CF. 1st and CF are your erasers. They bail your other fielders out.

We were top 5 in run production last year and still came up short in the finals, with a top 10 fielding defense and ERA. We cannot have a first basemen that is a defensive liability at first. The trend of Bindy's defensive woes from last year are continuing. I think he's a DH next year and thrives.
