Curious, anyone have any insights on Cunningham, the RHP from Washington that was pretty damn good last year? I assumed he would compete for a Sunday or midweek starter role.

I don't believe he's currently in line to be a starting pitcher for us; I would expect to see him in long relief

There hasn't been a lot said about him this offseason. He pitched in both fall scrimmages, but struggled a bit.

vs. HCU: 1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 1 K
vs. UofH: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

He was primarly used out of the bullpen last year at Washington, usually once or twice a weekend for multiple innings at the end of a game, similar to how we would use Aschenbeck. I have no inside information, but I would image he is in competition with Josh Stewart, Clayton Freshcorn, Ty Baker, and others for the closer role.

Not sure an ERA of 3 and a K9 of 12 is "struggling"

Yeah hopefully he is a reliable arm to eat innings on Sundays or mid-week. Might get some work in early in the season as we build our starters from 4-7 innings, depending on pitch count.

I can see him getting some Tuesday starts

Agreed . He was sharp against UH in the fall and Kelly trusts him . The top teams that make it to Omaha usually have a lefty and righty they can use twice a weekend in pressure situations .
