I guess this is the first game of theirs I've watched, but their field is ridiculous. All turf but the part that is supposed to be "dirt" is a cream color.

They are beating Elon 8-6. Our boy Mustard just gave up back to back jacks.

My eyes ! My eyes!

tu has got to be envious. Does WF also have an interstate nearby to add to the ambiance?

If I pitched there I'd feel like pitching from a butthole. But then again it would be Univeeitt of Houston and it pretty much would be correct.

I will never understand the blank infield. Looks horrible

Hopefully baseball fields don't start going down the same trend as basketball floors. Some of the color combinations you are seeing there are horrible and make it extremely hard to watch a game.

Wake has turf because their coach got annoyed with having issues with natural grass early in the year. Its cold enough around those parts that they get snow and what not.

I don't know the story about the infield color, but I assume it is to match their school color.

We use turf when where we can't keep grass alive. Only fix is to rotate the stadium so sunlight hits the patrons and the entire infield including behind the plate.

Just need to include rotating mirrors with the new renovation to aim sunlight in that direction.

Not necessarily the only solution, but this is probably cost prohibitive:

You see these at every big time soccer stadium in Europe (this one happens to be in New York). If they can grow grass in Europe in winter, they could do so in North Carolina (or College Station).

Well, you would be in south Houston, so...

But then there's University of Northwestern Ohio...

Wrong! It is horrid especially when you consider it uses "patches" for high traffic areas of the field. Ugly as hell. No top program should use a fix intended for small northern schools or rec league fields.

We stopped by Wake last fall after the South Carolina game and the baseball team just so happened to be having an open scrimmage. Beautiful campus

I am about anti-turf field as it gets.....but as I get older I realize that financially (and with all the local water restrictions here in Texas) it's something I'm just going to have to learn to live with.

Don Sanders Field was a nice little college park when it had real grass especially considering it is smack in the middle of Houston. Then again U of H is a rather nice urban campus.

I didn't say that I liked it (ha)... but WF is a small "northern-ish" school.

It is a baseball school in a baseball conference. At very least they should go with dirt where dirt should be on a baseball diamond like MLB requires. The reason the skinned part exist is because of high wear and tear, but no they just use a patchwork system for their fake dirt.

The turf is interesting. I would take a well-maintained grass field over a turf one everyday, but I'd take turf over a so-so grass field.

They have some great facilities there. Really neat pitching lab.

Would you take a so-so crappy turf field over a so-so grass field?

Somehow most of these schools can maintain grass fields for softball.

Any p4 college should be able to maintain a decent enough grass field.
