Is this the turning point, wake up call, pressure release that was needed by all.
Myles Patton what an effort after getting knocked around early and he rallied and was great.
Will this be what this team needed a little confidence and hitting up and down the lineup.

maybe

(I hope so, I am of the belief that they just needed someone that they could just club and Rice was that perfect someone to get things going.)

It's likely a product of our superior talent beating up on the whipping post that is Rice. We're due to do that once every 5 games. I'm not going to trick myself into thinking we're going to do this most games.

Rice (2-8) is really bad unfortunately

hitting and winning can be contagious in the same way not hitting and losing can be. when your whole team is slumping at the same time any win and positive production can be the catalyst to getting back on track. our next game is very big let's see if we can build off this and create some real momentum

Let's all agree that Rice is a horrible baseball team.

That said, it was very refreshing to see the Ags kick the crap out of a horrible baseball team, knocking the cover off the ball up and down the lineup.

A game like this lays the groundwork for the REAL turning point: when the Ags slap around a team that's worth a damn.

hitting is confidence and it is contagious. The smiles had by all were great to see and Earley.

It has to be a relief for them for sure. It is rare that an entire lineup this talented slumps at the same time, but that was what was going on. And it happened right as they lost GG.

Kent finally got them out of it, so we'll see where things go from here. Without Sorrell and GG this isn't an elite lineup, but it's good. If everyone can get going, things could get fun with Caden back in there.

Definitely was a turning point. Of the season? Could be.

Dude...we were going up against Rice's #3 pitcher. There won't be many Division I baseball teams in the country worse than Rice this year, and we weren't event facing who they consider to be one of their top 2 starters. Let's tap the brakes a bit.

FYI - upcoming games against UTSA, Texas Southern, and NM State aren't going to be a turning point either.

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

The question is… can a first time inexperienced head coach manage such a poor start with the #1 ranked team? It's a mighty high unrealistic expectation to think so.

i would have to disagree with you. yes rice is terrible and yes we faced their number 3. those are accurate statements. my issue with your thought process is our teams slow start has never been abkut talent. these guys didn't just forget how to play baseball. they have just been playing like a team who was slumping, lost one of their best players, and had lost confidence.

to me our struggles have been primarily between the ears not ability. a good win against a terrible team can be exactly what the doctor ordered for our current predicament. time will tell.

He had been used at the #2 until the this weekend and was not seemingly pushed to the #3 due to poor performance in his two starts against Michigan (6-4) and USC.(9-2, defeated Vandy this weekend),

Fernandez's numbers coming into last night's game
0 -0
IP 10.0
H 5
BAA .135
SLG .162
ER 1
R 1
BB 5
SO 10
HB 1
ERA 0.90

Pretty good numbers against solid competition.

Rice lost every game this weekend by roughly the same score +/-.

Not sure we learned much. Time will tell.

OK...I just noticed the flag is at half mast. Seems somewhat appropriate.

I'd say the top of the third. Kent's first HR. Frustration was a mile high at the moment and you could just see the whole team exhale as soon as that ball left the yard. King Kong was lifted from their backs. Easy pickings from that point forward.

But again……..it's Rice. Go undefeated all the way to Bama and we'll start talking "turning point"

Rice, Texas Southern, NM st and Prairie view arent much of a sounding board…but too late to change the schedule

I've been much more concerned about bats than relief pitching. Much of the pitching woes that cost us a few games that should've been in the bag were a) we had razor thin leads/lack of run support, and b) defensive errors keeping runners on the bases.

Hopefully we can continue to pound the ball and as the weather warms up those warning track balls at blue bell become HRs. The talent is there. Unlike basketball where low seeds rarely/never make noise deep, there is plenty of history in baseball to show you just have to get in and get hot at the right time.

We don't need a "sounding board." We need slump busters. We will find out what we have when SEC play starts, but I hope that we enter SEC play with a lot more confidence than we had going into Sunday.

100% this. We've got to get our confidence back and it doesn't matter who we play to get it. Just get it.

I went to the game vs Ok State and the game last night. This team is not good. The fundamentals on defense are terrible. The energy is off. And some of our stars look like they are trying to hit a home run every at bat. This is a bad team right now.
