Starting Pitching
Prager, Lampkin, Patton
Every bit as good as advertised

Relievers
Rudis has been really good
Freshcorn has shown signs of being good
Moss has been effective
Jackson needs some more innings big time stuff
McCoy looked good last night
Wilson (need him to improve we need lefty gas out of the pen)

Hitting
Henseler as good as advertised (SEC first team good)
Kent playing and hitting great
Kiel great he deserves to play every day
These three have done their part and carried the offense

Rest of the Team
Laviolette (hes gonna work it out)
Kash looks like he is starting to get comfortable

After these five
Schott been terrible
Farr needs to sit
Berghevin his K with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the first was the game last night you have to deliver in that spot even if it is fly ball. He may get tonight
Galloway has some decent swings
Harrison we need to see more of him
George should get a few more ab's
Royo a few more as well

Defense has been atrocious and the errors have cost us a few games that has to be cleaned up.

Managing so far has been tough for Earley but I will give him a pass that it hasnt been as easy as planned. This will make us a better team in the long run and with this starting pitching we are gonna have a chance.

We've got to put the ball in play more like we did last night and we were not rewarded for a lot of hard hit outs that will work itself out but we have to be smarter on the bases as we have ran ourselves out of innings with dumb baserunning.

We are gettting there and we will work it out and be a formidable team in the long run, this is only gonna make us better.

I'd like to see Earley start shaking things up, starting tonight. Move Kash to 1B. I'd go Kiel, Kent, Henseler, Kash as the 1-2-3-4. Drop Jace to 5.

Jace definitely 4 or 5 top 3 is what I would like to see. We are close

I agree with you we need a few more looks at him in the field and at the plate. Farr IMO has played himself to the bench with too many k's and errors.

When one guy, a senior, can't make contact with the bases loaded and one out and then can't field his position allowing a rally....what's it take? What did they see in the off season? Who heads up recruiting?

My positives

- Weekend starting rotation (Prager especially) will give us a chance to win any series
- Henseler, Kent, Kiel have all been solid and if they keep building on that, it'll be awesome

Negatives
- Defense. Defense. Defense.
- there are quite a few easy outs in the lineup and I don't see all of them turning that around.
- inconsistency of the bullpen

Should turn into a positive with time
- I have to believe Jace will figure it out.
- Kash improving each game is big
- Sorrell and Stewart returning will be huge if they play like they did last year
- first base should work itself out as we play more games

Could be damaging if they don't improve
- Schott needs to get better. He can't be an easy out, unable to play in the field AND stay in the lineup
- Offensive approach has to get to what it was in 2022-2024. We've watched too many meatballs over the middle and try to pull pitches that are low/outside leading to rollover grounders or weak pop flies.

Overall: I think we will turn it around but I don't foresee us being a national seed or even a regional host unless we go on an absolute heater in conference play.
I think we will be the 2 seed in a regional that nobody would want to face.

I think the main reason I am still hopeful on this season is our starting pitching. I'm confident that they will keep us in reach every weekend. We absolutely have to start hitting up and down the order more constantly. Errors have been ugly, I get it. Completely unacceptable. But having stars like Jace/Schott struggling the way they are + Sorell and Gavin being out, completely outweighs the uncharacteristic errors IMO.

-Very excited to see Kash have the confidence of his normal self back, I've stated before that I believe he is the domino who could really push this entire lineup and become that cleanup hitter we are lacking.

-Kent and Henseler are superstars but clearly can't do it all on their own, imagine once Sorrell is back and Schott/Jace come to form.

- Obviously I am a big fan of Kiel, dynamic athlete who continues to put balls in play and creates disruption for defenses. He has to stay in the lineup somehow when Sorrell returns. I'm not sure why I'm seeing all the bench Farr talk. His upside is tremendous and will only get better with reps. Him playing will go a long way for this team.

- Galloway has been the most unlucky hitter on the team. Constantly barreling the baseball he just needs to find a hole. I've seen enough from him to believe he can start every game for us (maybe not vs lefties).

-First base is where I'm struggling. Binderup must've looked like superman all fall for them to move Kash to left field comfortably. Hopefully that experiment is over. I'm hoping Bergevin steps up, he has had some good swings. But if I'm trying to make the best lineup once Sorrell returns, I'm keeping Kiel in LF and moving Kash to first.

Great post. Agree with all of that. I still think a lot of the errors are based in us pressing. That and maybe some guys in new positions (not sure on this part). Last night with 5 errors, we ran our selves out of an inning when things were looking good and that Berghevin out. I think we are trying to force things when it comes to running our selves out of innings. Last night with the attempt at 2nd and Kiel's try at a triple Saturday, which, damn that was fun to see how fast he is-it was the wrong call but there are times, especially in college baseball where a lot of teams would not have been ready for him to try to book it to 3rd and he would have slide in safe at 3rd. I am sure he did that a lot in HS where you may have guys who either weren't good enough to get the ball to 3rd base or weren't paying attention to the level of athlete he is and just stood there. Kiel learned a valuable lesson that the arms in college are a lot better, and things only ramp up in the SEC. But I am excited to watch this kid play.

But it was the errors, to me, that were the biggest issue. We don't commit those adn we likely win, if I am remembering things correctly. Those are fixable, but we NEED to get on that now.

I want to see what George looks like at SS in addition to moving Kash to first.

-When Sorrell returns Kash has to DH or play 1B. Cannot keep in LF and Kiel needs to play.

-I've not been super impressed with Farr or George, but between them and Royo someone has to play 2B. I'd like to see more chances given to other players there.

-1B defense is not good with either guy. So bad that I'd rather see Kash get a shot and he hasn't played 1B at all while here.

-I think Prager is elite. I'm not sold that Patton and Lamkin are. Need to see a couple starts against better competition. I do think they are good though.

-Desperately need Stewart to return and be a solid presence from the pen.

-Moss hasn't progressed as much as hoped, but keep getting him innings and he will keep getting better.

-Wilson and Morton need work as I believe both will be necessary for any kind of post season run.

A lot of problems to address and only 5 games to address them. Earley will get a ton of scrutiny in the Alabama series since their coach was on our short list.

Earley needs to put Kash at 1B starting tonight. Enough with experimentation over there. Errors at 1B played a big part in us losing at least two games that I can think of. It's time for change. Until Sorrel returns, stick your best defensive outfielder in LF and get whatever you can out of him at the plate.

Guess you'd have to stick either George or Erickson in the OF. Not sure that lineup is much better but if you eliminate the errors at 1B (big assumption), it might be worth it

Correct. George did not look good in left in Houston. He's looked ok in right. The priority needs to be fixing 1B.

I really liked McCoy's outing last night and we may likely need him to continue to improve as the season progresses. I don't agree yet that Farr has played himself out of the line-up but we quite possibly have other options at 2nd if and when he does. I agree that Prager should be extremely tough but will wait and see about Lampkin and Patton. I'm not sure that Lampkin has proven he can handle anyone's line-up the 2nd time through and am worried that he will give up 3-4 runs per 6 innings (which may be too many for our bats to equal or exceed) . Likewise, I love Patton's control and ability with the caveat that he is a freshman and will be facing even better hitting as the SEC season begins. Finally, I am hoping that Jace gets it together soon, maybe not taking as many pitches to get walks but swinging more aggressively early in the count. We need to work the opponent's pitch counts by swinging and hitting good pitches early in the count and by persistently fouling off close pitches when we're down in the count. Not just by standing at the plate and taking strikes.

George primarily was a catcher and we need something there as that is the biggest drop off.

I hope we look back at this stretch as growing pains with a new coach and players becoming leaders. Lots of season left and all our goals still in play.

It's clear that Earley would like to give Schott playing time, but at least drop him in the lineup when you do until he starts showing consistent life.

Agree on McCoy. Reminds me of Moo. If he can be as good as Moo we have a good one. Patton is not a freshman.
