The weekend non-conference play is basically done for SEC teams. Our regular season is about 25-30% complete. RPI along with our play and consistency have no where to go but up from here. And things can turn around quickly in the ratings because we will be playing 3 games against good teams nearly every weekend. Winning the upcoming Alabama series would be a nice start.

SEC schools RPI as of 3/9/2025 per Warren Nolan

4 - Tennessee
7 - Ole Miss
8 - Vanderbilt
11 - Arkansas
16 - Georgia
17 - Texas
18 - South Carolina
24 - Alabama
25 - Oklahoma
32 - Auburn
33 - Florida
51 - Kentucky
78 - LSU
95 - Mississippi St.
139 - Texas A&M
241 - Missouri

I think it's still too early for this data to mean much, but I do know I'd much rather be in the top 10 right now than in the 130s. But if you're gonna drop games to Cal Poly, Texas State, UTSA, and New Mexico State…not to mention a couple of Big 12 slappys, what should we expect?

That is a fairly accurate reflection of where this team is. They've earned all of that 139.

is it too early...to think about turning on the sprinklers...for this week's midweek game vs. Prairie View?

for comparison...A&M was RPI #8 entering SEC play last season

fell to #15 after losing the opening conference series to Florida

rebounded the next weekend vs. State...and stayed in the top 10 the rest of the season

also for comparison...

the 2022 Omaha team was buried in the RPI at 223 entering SEC play

but jumped to #80 after going 3-3 vs. LSU and Auburn in the first 2 weekends

it took until week 11 for the Ags to get inside the top 30

the team finished the regular season at RPI #22

I really thought that after 50 years of Aggie disappointments, going back 50 years this year to what happened to our football team in Arkansas, that I was immune to further disappointment. I always expect the worse. When our football team was ranked no. 20 going into last season I predicted to my son that Weigman would be injured in the first game. I just shrugged when it happened, and now it appears it might have even happened before that.

But there is no way that I could have possibly believed that our baseball team, before getting to conference play, would have six losses, lose Grahovic for the season, lose Sorrell and Stewart for extended lengths and what I now suspect may be for the season. Today looked so much worse than I could have imagined.

I'm not saying things cannot turn around. But danged if I'm going to have any hope for it. I know better.

When you think about it, Kent is the only player from last year providing offense to this year's team(and he wasn't even a starter until late in the year). Obviously we don't have Monty, Burton, Appel, or even Ali. We lost GG and Sorrell hasn't played a game. Add in that Jace has woefully underperformed and Schott looks completely lost. That is a LOAD of offense that we're missing.

I'm not too worried about rpi right now. SEC play will help with that.

I really wish we would quit playing Prarie View though and play someone like Baylor instead.

The problem with this rebuild, is it's the best rebuild Michael Earley will have in his tenure at this school.

SEC play alone will not be enough, we need to play well too

AGREE!! Well, when A&M loses to New Mexico State, overgrown jr college, something is dreadfully wrong.
BTW-I remember that AR game!! Disappointment isn't a strong enough word that can describe that game! I've watched A&M athletics for 70 years. I'm continually amazed at the CHOKE factor!

Of course......in '22 we went 19-11 in conference play and won the West.

I saw on another thread where new Mexico state was 138 rpi last year. Struck me as a little peculiar that we dropped a game to them and now sit at 139 right now

With our very weak RPI, I think we will have to finish 14-16 in conference to have a chance to make the tournament. For a chance to host a regional, my guess would be 18-12.

I'm curious what Florida's RPI was heading into conference play last year. I tied to look it up but can't find a site that allows me to look at week to week last year

This is where i'm at too. Likely have to win at least 60% of our conference games to host

Gonna be tough.

I don't know, but they played a much tougher non conference schedule with Florida St a couple of times and Miami.

according to Warren Nolan...

Florida was RPI #12 going into SEC play last season

the Gators won a series at Miami before league play started

and UF actually won its first 3 SEC series vs. A&M, LSU, and State...while losing all its midweeks

Wow we have a lot more ground to make up that's for sure. I'm having a hard time seeing us host, making the postseason is really the goal at this point.

There is enough RPI hay to be made during the SEC schedule to work our way into a host slot, especially with how hot we would be to close the season if we were in the conversation.

Mixture of two things: approach at the plate and pitch discipline. Both are dog water right now IMO.

I feel this may be similar to hoping an Aggie QB gets more accurate as season progresses. We now how this has fared.

Most of these guys have shown the ability to do this in the past, unlike hoping for an Aggie QB to develop accuracy.

Sure. It is also strong enough that we could still work our way into a top 8 seed if won it despite our non-conference struggles. The reason why that works is because of how strong the SEC is as a league.

The other side of that coin is an SEC schedule can REALLY punish struggling teams even if those teams have talent. 7 of our 10 SEC series are against teams currently ranked in the top 25. It doesn't take much for a struggling but still talented team to drop too many SEC games and find themselves missing the big tournament (especially when they struggled in non-conference).

I'm not a give up on the season type of poster and am not trying to say that, but we need to play better (and I think we can) or we will find ourselves as just the latest SEC team to reach the CWS championship game and not make the postseason the following year.
